4.0 out of 5 stars AD2 in a more mellow, burned-out 1970's mood...
"Hijack" was released in 1974. "Made In Germany" (from where "Metropolis" and the wonderfully acidic "La Krautoma" hail) came out in 1975. Both were released on Nova in Germany and Atco (!) in the USA. The German release of MIG was a 2 LP set that actually had a plot to it. "The Only Thing" & "Flowers of the Orient" are actually from the rather stale "Pyragony X"...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as great as could be
This album lacks most AMON DUUL II jewels that appeared on Yeti, Phallus Dei, Wolf City, Vive la Trance, Made in Germany and could never be termed greatest hits. AMON DUUL II is a fantastic Progressive Rock group with remarkable creative and technical skills and this album does not reflect that greatness at all... Most of the tracks come from the relatively weak...

This review is from: Amon D??l II - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
"Hijack" was released in 1974. "Made In Germany" (from where "Metropolis" and the wonderfully acidic "La Krautoma" hail) came out in 1975. Both were released on Nova in Germany and Atco (!) in the USA. The German release of MIG was a 2 LP set that actually had a plot to it. "The Only Thing" & "Flowers of the Orient" are actually from the rather stale "Pyragony X" from 1976 on Nova (no USA release), so I don't know where "Bart's" above claim of 1980's material comes from. "Almost Alive" (Nova) was released in 1977. "Only Human" (Strand Records) is from 1978. Not a single track from 1980 here.

Amon Duul 2's 1980's albums are Vortex (Strand, 1981)and Meeting With Menmachines (1983) and it's a good thing, no tracks from these two were included. "Menmachines" isn't even a real A D 2 album, it's a Hawkwind/Duul melange. And then there's the stuff with Bob Calvert... Fans should enjoy Pietro Scaruffi's A D 2 page with excellent discography from his 1970's music database website:
