Quentin Carter has done his thing again. Here is another book that captures your attention from the first page to the end. 3.0 out of 5 stars Just ok
This was an alright book. It wasn't nearly as good as Carter's earlier novels. The main character Ramon is just a dumb fool and the only character I liked was Yawni. So it might be worth a read, but I wouldn't spend $$ on this book. Hoodwinked, In Cahootz, and Contagious were so much better, the author definitely slipped on this one.

He wants to live out his youthfullness through a hood rat, sack chasing, money hungry broad name Jayde. Jayde has her own motives and it will all be re-veiled throughtout the story. Can Ramon come out on top or will Jayde be the cause of his downfall. I recommend you pick up your copy to find out, I guarenteed you will not be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Lesson Amongst Thieves (token) 4.5 stars, February 6, 2008
This review is from: Amongst Thieves (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
15 years behind bars for the cost of a loved one's brother mistake, Ramon returns home only to find hisself drawn back into the brink of crime with his old crew, who are 5 loyal friends and thieves. Taking small time to big time, Ramon and his crew put Kansas City back on the map. Ramon moves to the top of the illegitimate world and his taste for power and greed increase, of course King Ramon can't move without being checked by two queens, Yawni a 38 year old, hard core diva and friend, who have her bet on becoming wifey, and Jayde an eye candy for Ramon's soul, but a hurt for his heart and pockets, and a plan of her own. They say more money bring more problems, and Secret alliances, shady politicians, the law of police who's hot on their trail, and of course his crew of thieves conspire to bring about his demise.

Friendship, loyalty, and trust is what these thieves graduated from to the dark path of betrayal and murder. Is it worth the cost??? You have to take a lesson amongst thieves to find out.

Amongst Thieves shows the author side of a great story telling novel. The characters come out vividly strong, but sometimes I felt this story started to drag in the middle of the book and then picks back up with the drama, murder, shock, betrayal, action, crime, and violence, it's all here rolled up in one, and I would definately say this book is worth reading and worth putting on that top collection of heart pounding novels.

Ramon, Ramon, Ramon...what a character. Amongst Thieves is a book that keeps you wanting to know what will happen next. This book has you wanting and craving to know if they were going to get out of these situations and wanting to know who was going to end up with whom.

If you never believed in the scripture "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Provervs 22:6 Trishay Delay will make you start believing again.

This is a must read. I read this book over the weekend. Once you pick this book up you will NOT be able to put it down.

I have to say this again this is a must read.... Quentin Carter keep doing what you do. This book was wonderful it's an attention getter. I never lost track. I can not say this enough this book is a great read. If you have not yet gotten this book you need to get it fast.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thieves, Watch Your Back... (3.5 stars), February 21, 2008
This review is from: Amongst Thieves (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
Ramon is an ex-con who lives a life of thievery. After being released from prison, Ramon hooks up with his posse to continue where they left off. What Ramon doesn't know is that the future holds a chain of events that he never could have imagined.

With the help of local politicians and other stakeholders, Ramon has the opportunity to change his mode of operation. The deal will put millions of dollars at Ramon's disposal, in addition to making his business look legitimate on the surface. While Ramon seals the deal on his new business venture, the rest of his crew wonders where they will fit in.

Yawni and Jayde are both vying for the same man--Ramon. Even though Ramon is attracted to both women, something about Jayde tugs at his heart. This situation leaves Yawni yearning to be with a man who hesitates to commit himself to her. In the meantime, Ramon's commitment to Jayde creates all sorts of problems that can't be easily resolved.

Although a very lengthy read that could have been shortened without decreasing its effect, AMONGST THIEVES takes the reader on a long journey of unexpected events. In Quentin Carter style, there is a morale to the story that makes you ponder long after you've read the last page. I look forward to the next novel by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's A Wrap, February 20, 2008
This review is from: Amongst Thieves (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
Ramon Delay is handsome, arrogant and self serving; however it doesn't stop everyone from playing by his rules or do they? With age playing tricks on him Ramon finds himself falling deeper and deeper.
What does it mean to gain power, real estate, fortune and fame and you lose your family, friends and respect? That's a question Ramon Delay will be asking himself for years to come.
Amongst Thievesgives the reader a glimpse into the life of Mr. Ramon Delay and his den of thieves. His crew will rob, threaten and kill for the right price to the highest bidder. But "watch yo back" because not only are they looking for fortune they also want the recognition or in other words "give credit where credit is due"

Mr. Delay' head get so big that he begins not to care that his rise to the top wasn't on his own merit. After reflecting on his past and looking into his future he decides the unmentionable and this act causes his crew to start doubting his motives. Piece by piece brick by brick things fall apart professionally for him just as fast as his personal life. At the same time his professional and personal life falls apart his past collides with his now. What once glittered like gold quickly tarnishes and Ramon soon realizes the old adage is his reality "Do unto others" or in urban terminology "you do evil you get evil back".

Quentin Carter did an excellent job of putting this book together and covering all the details. Moving from the past to the present can sometimes cause the audience to get lost but in this case that's not so. The author's writing style and characterization truly is what kept this book from being just another crime, drug related urban book. The characters were real with real emotions and problems which helped the story to flow.

This is my first by this author and it WILL NOT be my last.

A definite read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Never Ending, October 15, 2010
This review is from: Amongst Thieves (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
I loved this book I thought it was pretty good read. I couldn't put it down, but I just thought I would never get to the ending of it. It seemed like the author dragged it on and on. But other than that it was good hands down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read Overall, September 28, 2009
This review is from: Amongst Thieves (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
Quentin Carter has done it again. This book had me turning page after page I just couldn't put this book down. Was so suprised at myself for finishing this big book so fast.

Amongst Thieves starts off with Ramon going to jail for 15 years after killing his baby mom's little brother over some money that was tooken from him.

Ramon gets out of jail and gets into the hustle of steling with his crew. That set him up with Murphy a white man that owns a lot of business including a bank.
Ramon and his crew opens up a hotel and casino. Ramon gets beheaded after awhile and decided that everything is his.

After awhile he gets into liking Jayde one of the girls he hire for his casino. He starts to dismiss Yawni his main girl.
His crew decided that they don't want nothing to do with Ramon due that his is all big headed and dising them to hang and be with the big dogs.

In the meantime police office Molina is on the lookout with Ramon and his crew due to the bankrobbery that happen had a woman in the crew and that set them on to Yawni.

All I have to say is I can't say to much more about this book. I know that Ramon in a way got what was coming to him but, in away I did feel sorry for Jayde when she was telling her life story but, then I didn't. I mainly liked Yawni to the end even after Ramon dogged her she still had love for him to the end.

Great book overall and I am so hoping that Quentin don't leave us readers hanging with this book. I would love to see what else happens to everyone.

This book was great, it started out crazy and ended crazier. I enjoyed the plot, the only thing I didnt like was Ramon getting away with so much dirt. But for Jayde, to shoot her own mother, that was terrible. But beside that, the book was an excellent read. Keep up the good work Quentin Carter. Im enjoying your books.
