Canta en Espanol?,

This review is from: Amor/More Amor (Audio CD)
GL Music's remastered version of this double album set sounds so much better than ANY previous release. A must for any collector of smooth beautiful music by Eydie Gorme. My Father had the reel-to-reel version of the "Amor" album and this CD version blows away ANY previous version in CD, vinyl or tape. The guitar is so much more clearer which sounded muffled or distorted on all the other recordings not to mention bringing Eydie's sweet smooth voice to life with the wonderful backup of the Trio Los Panchos. Anyone who has heard Eydie Gorme knows her voice is so much more soothing & relaxing compared to the Linda Ronstadt versions. "Amor" is one of my FAVORITE ALBUMS OF ALL TIME in a collector's collection of ALL kinds of music.

I'm happy that Eydie's other GL MUSIC cds are selling well. Now let's see this one take off. Her Spanish voice is perfection & the Trios Los Panchos backing her up give this an authenticity that purists love. Her passion for Spanish makes us non-Spanish folk simpatico with her. One can seperate the tunes because the melodies are so unique & beautiful. My favorites are LUNA LUNERA & ULTIMA NOCHE. They both zap along infectiously. All 24 songs, ballads & upbeat, will enthrall one. So all of you internationalists who love good music & need an uplift, buy this.

As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a remastered version that was commissioned by Eydie Gormé and Steve Lawrence for release. All of the songs sound glorious with their new mastering, producing richer bass tones and a warmer tone of voice for both Ms. Gormé and Chucho Navarro on all of the songs.
With that said, why the two-star review? It is because one of the songs included in this collection, "No Te Vayas Sin Mí," is an edited version that removes the entire first verse as sung by Los Panchos. The song starts with the key change on the second verse as sung by Ms. Gormé; the song is only 1:46 in length as a result, instead of the original 3:11. Had the original version been included, this review would have been a glowing 5+ stars. I've tried speculating as to the reason why. Did Ms. Gormé have a falling-out with a certain member of the group? Sounds silly. Maybe there wasn't enough room on the CD? Impossible; the CD has a run time of a little over 61 minutes. Is Ms. Gormé so self-centered and narcissistic that she would remove a verse from a song in which she isn't showcased as the main voice, since this is clearly an EYDIE GORMÉ collection? Seems extremely unlikely to me, but I can't think of any other explanation why this particular gem of a song would be butchered to that extent. Thankfully, the rest of the songs in this collection are intact and can provide a bit of a distraction from the missing musical pieces.

Beautiful, Romantic and Legendary,

If you enjoy the beautiful voice of Edie Gorme singing Spanish love songs in perfect Spanish with the famous Trio Los Ponchos, I highly recommend this. I am listening to it as I write this review and still get "goose bumps" at the sensuousness of this repertoire. Definitely puts you "in the mood".

Madame Gorme saved my childhood from being a shade less chaotic than it could have been with her heartfelt melodious voice. And the soothing rhythmic music and voices provided by Trio Los Panchos backing her is like pure delight, like: Creme brulee or Bailey's irish cream on ice, something that makes you sigh with pleasure. The fact of the matter is: It is a crazy world out there and filled with crazies who drive with a pringle or two on their shoulder, for them or those who are aggravated by them I highly recommend the almost ethereal, but always heartfelt and soothing voice of Eydie Gorme and the Trio Los Panchos, especially this cd. The world would be a better place, dare I say, a safer place if we all owned one and drove while listening to this cd. Enough said. Oh, and yes, it is in
spanish, but, hey, the language of love and matters of the heart is universal right? It is still beautiful to listen to, trust me on this one. I hope that I am not giving you the impression that she will put you to sleep, no, she won't. It is like going to Havana in it's heyday, a happy time and you feel good listening to it. And it is romantic and she can belt it out with the best of them too. If this does not pique your curiousity, I don't know what will. Trust me, buy this, it is worth it. I bought 2, that should say something. It says that I love it and that you might too. |
