It has been exactly one month since I have ordered the Selena CD, Amor Prohibido, and I still have not gotten it. I'm very disappointed and I will tell everyone I know (That uses amazon) to NEVER buy from you.

Amor Prohibido is a fantastic album, everybody should listen to it to know how incredible was Selena. All albums released by selena were great, but this one is special because her voice is more beautiful than ever, and we can listen to many styles of music, such as Cumbia, Rock and Mariachi. It`s also good to remember that all musics from Amor Prohibido were very succesful. It`s very difficult to tell what song is the best, because all of them are fantastic, but my favorite one is "No me queda mas",the best Mariachi ballada Selena has ever sung in my opinion, followed by "Si una ves" and "Fotos y recuerdos", songs we can listen to all day long without wanting to stop. yes, the last Selena album before her death is a must and all people who want to know her music should buy it immediately.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMOR PROHIBIDO: THE ALBUM ALL SELENA FANS MUST OWN, April 7, 2003
This review is from: Amor Prohibido (Audio CD)
Although Selena was a big celebrity before the 1994 release of this album, "Amor Prohibido" is one of her best known, and really shot this Tejano Queen into the limelight. Some songs featured on this album are "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom", "No Me Queda Mas" and the title track, now known as Selena and tejano classics. This album pushed the Tejano boundaries and is one of the most influential albums of its time. With a mix of rock, pop, cumbia, mariachi and with Selena's stunning vocals it is a must-have.

As for the Remastered Tracks and Bonus Tracks, there is little to be said. There really wasn't much on this album to remaster, as it's original sound was up to date when it was recorded unlike her earlier recordings where the difference is completely noticeable. On some songs, yes you can hear it, but on most...no. The videos on this album are a nice added touch, but if you own the "All My Hits Video Collection", or the "Ones" DVD, this is again just re-packaged material. The Bonus Track, "Dondequiera Que Estes" is a beautiful song and one of her first big hits, and it's nice to have it in its original version on a Selena album (if you own Dreaming of You- the album, you have the Spanglish version titled Wherever You Are), unless of course you already own the "Ones" collection with the original version already on it. The Spoken liner notes are actually very interesting on this record, the band member's memories are much more vivid and I believe they talk more about the experience in the making of this record. I, myself, only bought this remastered album because my old one had worn out, and I felt it was time for a new one. So, if you already own the first original release of "Amor Prohibido", you have to ask yourself a couple of questions:
Would I rather buy the "Ones" album/DVD and get all the material? Or rebuy all the remastered albums and get it piece by piece?
Are the 20 minutes of new commentary on the album worth it to me?
It's really up to you
If you don't own this album already, I STRONGLY suggest you buy it now, because you'll treasure it forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Selena Es Mi "Amor Prohibido" Para Siempre!, October 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Amor Prohibido (Audio CD)
This album was critiziezed for being unbalenced, with different styles of music mixed into one album.

I disagree, Selena was very good in many different types of music. Amor Prohibido is the best album Selena ever released in life, a chance that we had to see what we would lose a year later.

I liked the title track of course. But "Fots Y Recuerdos" was an incredible number. Followed By her hit "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" and "Techno Cumbia" witch are now songs known by every latin music listener.

Then Came "No Me Queda Mas" a remix from the 1993 hit, which was written by Ricky Vela to Selena's sister Suzette, because he was in love with her. This Mariachi ballad was incredible.

"Ya No" was an exellent Rock-Style ending to what would be Selena's final album. We will never forget you, "Queen Of Tejano"

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Album!, February 5, 2003
This review is from: Amor Prohibido (Audio CD)
This is one of the best albums ever recorded by any artist ever. I have the original 1994 issue, the version with the red sticker on the cover, and this, the best version available with excellent bonuses. YA NO, her best song she recorded, is on this disc. Fast-moving in a good way, this CD is probably the most essential Selena purchase. The commentary by her family is also informative and interesting. Anyone who doesn't own this album is a fool in my book!

5.0 out of 5 stars On the road to superstardom, April 16, 2005

B. Tru (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Amor Prohibido (Audio CD)
This album encompassed Selena on her way to what would have been THE pop-crossover of the 1990s. Selena demonstrated true drive, ambition and passion in everything she did, from her record-breaking live performances to her must-have albums, like Amor Prohibido.

This album is a cohesive, complete set of ten Latin-based tracks, that showcase her wonderful, learned voice and the emerging Tejano-techno-pop sound that she and her band were pioneers of in the late 80s/early 90s. From the irresistible Spanish pop of "Amor Prohibido" and "Bidi Bom Bom" to the the sound of her sweet voice over the traditional accordion and guitar arrangements of "Tus Desprecios" and brass-line in "Si Una Vez," Selena proves that her voice surpasses, with elegant grace, even some of the great-English-language pop stars of her time. Every song on this compilation is pure perfection -- whether it's the get-up-and-dance neo-Tejano beat of "Techno Cumbia" or the classic soul of "No Me Queda Mas" -- and Selena's melodic, soothing voice puts the finishing touch on each song (with remarkable pitch and range.) This CD belongs in the music collections of Tejano and pop fans alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars The CD that introduced me to Selena..., June 3, 2001
This review is from: Amor Prohibido (Audio CD)
Due to their bouncy beats, the songs that stood out the most to me when I first purchased this CD was the humorous track "El Chico Del Apartamento 512," and "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom." Now, my favorite tracks are by far "Amor Prohibido" and the pop/rock influenced "Ya No." Amor Prohibido holds a special place in my heart, because it was the first Selena CD I ever bought, plus it was the first Latin CD I ever bought, introducing me to a different music style, which I love. This CD will always be important to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Selena's most popular tejano album. A cumbia masterpiece., August 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Amor Prohibido (Audio CD)
As the ruling queen of tejano music, Selena broke all the rules with Amor Prohibido. Ballads of love not meant to be, upbeat cumbia tracks about puppy love, and mariachi-based songs tell anyone listening to enjoy the time you have to the fullest. Selena was prematurely taken from this world and this album shows a glimpse of how she was aimed to take American popular music to a new level. This is a great companion disc to the "Selena Remembered" video and one to listen to if you ever feel down. That unmistakable silky voice will make you smile every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite singer, July 17, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Amor Prohibido (Audio CD)
I really like the songs that Selena sings. The thing I like about it is that she sings English and Spanish. I also like her voice and the way that her brothers and sister play the instruments. I think that it really nice that mostly the whole family is in it. I like Selena's songs more than anyother C.D. I wish she didn't die but she did. Even though she's dead, I still listen to hre songs.
