5.0 out of 5 stars Great insight into contemporary life in Madrid
I read this book (twice now!) to keep up with my Spanish, and I loved it. It's about three sisters who think they are nothing alike (the party girl, the business woman and the housewife)but find out that their greatest bond is their strength. It's funny, sad and insightful about women's experiences in Madrid and everywhere.

2.0 out of 5 stars Comercial and easy literature
I considere this book as a comercial action. Etxeberría segmentate the market, found a rentable public ( women who never read nothing before ), and writte something deepless. There's no literature on this book, one can realize that it was only made for the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars refreshing female stuff, August 17, 2001
By A Customer
Probably one of the most refreshing texts in Spanish current literature, and, althought not the most laureated one from the writer (winner of two very prestigious Spanish awards and 'Honoris Causa' Ph.D. By the University of Aberdeen)this is Etxebarria at her best. Written by a woman and addressed to women, the book gives us an alternative, to the predominant male focussed, view of modern society.

Si usted va a casar con Sr. Dudas, entonces debes usar prozac toda su vida.
Su fuerte is increible. Tiene mucho machismo. Que barbaridad!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sense of humor and reality, May 20, 2001
This is a very good book. You will laugh, cry, it makes you think about the important things in life... It is the first book she has wrote and the funniest. I really recommend it for all people who are worried about love, friendship and life in general.

4.0 out of 5 stars ah.... sisters...., November 5, 2006
The title of this book in Spanish translates as, "Love, Curiosity, Prozac and Doubts", with apologies to Dorothy Parker (Love, Curiosity, Freckles and Doubt). Written in the voices of three Madrilena (from Madrid) sisters - primarily the youngest (and wildest) - this novel examines the difficulties that modern young women in Spain encounter at all levels of society.

The youngest sister is a recreational drug user and likes sex much too much for her sisters' taste. The oldest sister is a top-notch business woman - a very rough road to hoe in a macho-istic society in a male-oriented sector of that society - who the younger sister believes needs a few more drug and a little more sex in her life. The middle sister is drowning in the depression of her role as an under appreciated housewife and mother (her sisters' can't seem to understand why she isn't happy).

Spanish women and their emotional needs seem to be largely ignored by the popular media - in large part because Spanish women have always been expected to put up and shut up and be happy for what they have. This book addresses some of the more pressing issues that many young Spanish women are likely dealing with at a less pressing level. It is very well written, and successfully incorporates plenty of humor and anger with the ways that all of our families make us crazy.
