5.0 out of 5 stars Russell Comes of Age
By now most people who have heard of Russell Watson know that soon after the start of his professional career, he developed a polyp on his vocal cords--frequently an occurrance that spells doom to singing (remember Julie Andrews). Amore e Musica is the first album he made since his surgery and recovery.

1.0 out of 5 stars Music for your girlfriend or granny
You wanna know what's wrong with the music industry today?
It is cross-over like this.

Watson is one of those singers whose voice is slightly too trained to sing Pop or Rock, but not good enough to sing real opera (Berg to Verdi to Mozart to Monteverdi, I mean).

Trashy, schmaltzy, sentimental and kitsch.

I just can't imagine why...

By now most people who have heard of Russell Watson know that soon after the start of his professional career, he developed a polyp on his vocal cords--frequently an occurrance that spells doom to singing (remember Julie Andrews). Amore e Musica is the first album he made since his surgery and recovery.

Russell Watson displays a wide range of vocal skills. He can sing softly in his "breathy" way, transition into a falcetto (which he does so well and which was how he discovered that something was wrong with his voice), and as swiftly change gears into his powerful operatic voice--all done effortlessly.

I found his first three CD's magnificent, but they were a collection of music that seemed merely put together. They certainly demonstrated Russell Watson's "Gift". There were more operatic pieces on these albums while Amore e Musica included fewer classical opera pieces. This may have disappointed those who are looking for Watson to become a more orthodox operatic singer.

Amore e Musica announces that Russ has grown up, he has matured, and he wants to tell his listeners that he loves music--all of it. With his vocal gift, he can do it!

When I listen to this, the lastest CD, I am struck by the emotionality that he puts into each song and the emotionality that his singing evokes in me. Listening to the words and the most lyrical music I have ever heard, I feel that I am listening to his prayer--to him giving thanks for his newfound "Voice". And what a voice it is! You will hear him work his soft and breathy voice, his falcetto, and then pull from the depths of his being his powerful operatic voice--telling us all that HIS VOICE IS BACK. Beyond his technique he is able to reflect the meaning and emotion of the words by the way he poetically phrases, inflects his voice, and pulls every ounce of emotion from himself (and me). He moves from soft and breathy, to falcetto, to operatic voice effortlessly letting us opera buffs know that he CAN do that. His latest producer mentioned in an article that Russell Watson has a way of singing that makes each person feel that he is singing to them. I'm not a person who believes in much of the hype that comes out on a celebrity, but in Watson's case I find it to be true.

If Amore e Musica is Watson saying he's going his own way musically, I will love it. If he decides to do more with the operatic style I will surely love it. I am eagerly, maybe even anxiously awaiting his next CD. Amore e Musica says he is back better than before and expresses his recogntion and gratitude for his gift--His Voice. Vincero! I shall conquer, I shall win!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational uplifting thrilling and surprising, October 27, 2005

This music was being played in a shop where I was trying on clothes, and I kept breaking out in chillbumps from being thrilled with the music - which was bizarre because I have NEVER listened to this kind of music - but this man's voice and the arrangement of the music thrilled me deeply. I went directly from that shop and bought the cd; the whole selection is wonderful. This is deeply affecting music (and it can't be the lyrics because they are mostly in Italian). And his voice is so full, warm, and sensitive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally his own voice!, September 27, 2005
This review is from: Amore Musica (Audio CD)

I really enjoy this CD. Of all his previous works I feel like this is the best for this reason, it is his own voice.

On all his other CD's he seemed to follow quite a few of the popular methods forged by other singers. Of course he didn't do this all the time, but still I found it annoying.

However, on this CD his voice is the best I have ever heard it. I feel that it sounds more full and careful then some of the notes that almost made my throat ache in the way he sang them. I think he's finally found his own style and niche.

My Favorites: Pray For The Love, The Alchemist, Amore e Musica, II Gladiator.

The others are good too but these are my favorite tracks to listen too. Especially the sentiments in the song Pray for the Love. I think that is holds as ideal that is lost on a lot of youth today. I have nothing but praise for this CD.

Perfect!

I have all of Russell's CDs (plus the DVD of his performance in New Zealand). Amore Musica may be my favorite of all of them. It's hard to believe when you listen to his newest CD that this is his first CD after recovering from throat surgery (this is the same type of surgery that Julie Andrews had and forced her to stop singing). I love the songs chosen for this CD, in particular La Fiamma Sacra, The Alchemist (with Lara Fabian), Pray for the Love, and You'll Still Be There for Me. If you loved his other CDs, this one will not disappoint!

The tall and rangy Mr.Watson returns to us after an absence of a year or so due to voice complications which led to surgery. Happily,Russell is back in very fine form and "The Voice" is as glorious as ever.Due to some dark personal times and doubts, I would say that "Amore Musica" is a more personal, introspective collection of songs which express Russell's feelings about love, faith, and humanity. As in his other offerings, Russell sings several tracks in Italian, which is the true language of love and always a delight to hear. Lara Fabian is his duet partner on this album and they sing an interesting song entitled "The Alchemist and the Belgian born pop singer's voice blends nicely with Russell's. A few of the tracks such as "You Raise Me Up", "I Believe",and "I'll Walk With God" reflect his faith and spirituality and are really quite beautiful. Especially moving is "I'll Walk With God" from (The Student Prince). You cannot help but be deeply impressed by the beauty of the lyrics and Russell's interpretation of this song. I have to say Three Cheers to Russell Watson and Five Stars to "Amore Musica". Fellow listeners, indulge yourself in beauty and buy this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Russel's Best So Far..., May 30, 2005

As every reviewer here I give this CD 5 BIG stars. It's the most achingly beautiful Watson so far. In fact it actually took my breath away.

My very favorite tracks are "Amore E Musica","Alchemist" and "Prayer For The Love". But how can I even really pick "a best"? The whole CD is a revelation, especially considering he almost lost his voice, and he has come back better than ever.

Amore Musica is a wonderful CD from beginning to end. Once again Russell gives us an amazing selection of songs and a great duet with Lara Fabian called The Alchemist. Russell's voice is better than ever and his version of I'll Walk With God will send shivers up and down your spine!

5.0 out of 5 stars Russell, the Man, December 30, 2004
This review is from: Amore Musica (Audio CD)
At first, I thought I wouldn't like the New Russell, but the more I listened , the better it sounded.
Now I play it every day, and have chosen some favorites.
1. is The Alchemist
2. You'll Still Be There For me
3. You Raise me Up- the best version I've heard yet.
Russell's voice may be changed somewhat, but it is by no means less than it was- just different.
Still no. 1 with me.
