5.0 out of 5 stars top tier melodic death metal!
well is it really death metal alone? no. The vocals are a blackened growl/shriek that does not make the lyrics indecipherable (a big plus- if you bother with lyrics, why make them indecipherable?). There are two (I am assuming classically trained) keyboard/pianists in this band (who handle exceptional dualling leads and harmonies as well as solos- this is not cheese...

embraced was a 2nd tier member of bands that made up the original swedish melodic death metal sound. pretty standard for the sub genre, but definitely recommended for those like me who just never can get enough gothenburg in their heavy metal diet. if your melodic death metal collection goes beyond the standard in flames, dark tranquility, and at the gates classics (i'm...

3.0 out of 5 stars gothenburg = the greatest metal sub genre, January 3, 2009

embraced was a 2nd tier member of bands that made up the original swedish melodic death metal sound. pretty standard for the sub genre, but definitely recommended for those like me who just never can get enough gothenburg in their heavy metal diet. if your melodic death metal collection goes beyond the standard in flames, dark tranquility, and at the gates classics (i'm talking the mighty gates of ishtar, eucharist, ablaze my sorrow, sacrilege, everdawn, night in gales, etc, etc) then embraced's stuff is probably just what you're looking for.

stay metal.

5.0 out of 5 stars top tier melodic death metal!, June 23, 2007

well is it really death metal alone? no. The vocals are a blackened growl/shriek that does not make the lyrics indecipherable (a big plus- if you bother with lyrics, why make them indecipherable?). There are two (I am assuming classically trained) keyboard/pianists in this band (who handle exceptional dualling leads and harmonies as well as solos- this is not cheese here, all tasteful neoclassical piano parts), two guitarists (who trade off leads that are very thrashy and aggressive-with excellent tone), one bassist who holds it down well while still being noticeable with his undertones, the drummer is pretty standard fare for this style (which means he has to be good to keep up with the pace and yet set it).
In the end, if I had to classify this metal band, I would call them majestic/neoclassical melodic thrashy blackened death metal....regardless, if you hear this, you will be astounded by the exceptional writing and raw emotion coming through the songwriting here. seriously this is a lesser known jem within the metal field, and I recommend you pick it up. these Swedes do not disappoint when it comes to a convoluted and overworked genre. IMO, they are at the top of the pack........buy their other album "within" too, it is every bit as good, if not better! (and it may be cheaper). Enjoy your musical exploration!
