2.0 out of 5 stars Appalling editing, April 15, 2007
By
Mayhem (Metzger, OR) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Amp Book: A Guitarist's Introductory Guide to Tube Amplifiers (Paperback)
This book is a very short (60-page) overview of tube guitar amps written more than two decades ago in 1983. The 1987 version contributes some really appalling editing that deleted many pictures and diagrams, but not the references to them in the text, and failed to correct the numerous factual, mathematical and spelling errors throughout this pamphlet.

Of the 60 pages, Brosnac spends 18 pages on the history of Fender tube amps, while all other manufacturers get shorted. Vox and Marshall combined receive less than four pages coverage. In his discussion of Fender amps, Brosnac spends considerably more effort on the various colors of grillcloth and Tolex used by Fender than on Fender circuitry. The author does spend a dozen pages on how tube amps generally work, but the coverage is superficial. But then again, this is a self-proclaimed "introductory" guide.

If you are interested in learning that no Fender tweed amp came with reverb, then this is the book for you. Otherwise spend your money elsewhere. This was not a book that I enjoyed reading.
