Nice Sounding, Versitile Amp,

This review is from: Ampeg BA112 BassAmp Series 1x12 Solid State Bass Combo Amplifier, 50 Watt (Electronics)
I purchased a BA112 almost a year ago from another vendor, and highly recommend it. Ampeg has included a selector switch that allows the user to move between 5 EQ pre-sets, as well as separate controls for bass, mid-range, and treble. I've found a workable set of settings for the knobs and now have three of the pre-sets that I move between for jazz, pop, and rock. The tilt back feature is great when playing through a house sound system and using the amp as a monitor. This amp has a true line out, unlike some amps that have headphone jacks that disable the amp when you are plugged in. There's a separate headphone out, too. The great thing, of course, about the line out is that you have more control over tone and volume and are just leaving it entirely in the hands of the sound engineer. In the church where I play we have some somewhat suspect direct boxes that tend to kick in and out at random. Not a big problem for me when I cart my Ampeg in; I can simply use the amp and work around the problems caused by the faulty direct boxes. The BA112 is sturdy and really has plenty of dynamic and tonal range, including very good bass response, especially for the cost.

I was needing a decent practice amp that had enough "oomph" to double as a stage monitor but did not cost a ton of money. I have only had it out of the box a day but have put it through it's paces and am pretty pleased with the sound quality, volume ("oomph") and physical design. It feels as solid as it sounds. I especially like the shaping knob that goes beyond just the EQ that let's you set the overall tone of the amp from warm tube amp-ish to bright and punchy alt. rock sound. At the price for a brand name amp such as Ampeg, this is a great value for the quality you are getting. One last thing I really dig that's hard to appreciate from the picture: it has a flat bottom but a wedge shaped back so it can be set flat on the floor (when spaces is at a premium or for practice) or it can laid back on the wedge back for use more as a stage monitor

This amp is a power house. Super loud and very diverse sounds. I play a G&L bass, with an active and passive switch. This amp helps me bring out an amazing sound out of my bass.
This amp is incredibly loud, and really delivers great lows and highs. No distortion or funny rumbling. This is definitely worth the money. Headphone jack is great, it adjust nicely for a great sound for headphones. Sound doesn't distort and is super clean and crisp. The amp it self is very well built. Its sturdy and very easy to carry. The handle is good enough to carry the amp around. The amp is not very heavy and very easy to move from place to place if you need to.

I use this amp in a church setting with about 200 people every Sunday. Granted I'm DI'd into the monitor and house mix. You will need a DI box if you're going to play live. There is no direct out (XLR). It has plenty of punch and I never have it louder than '4' on the volume. The presets are nice as you can immediately change tone if needed. There is a bit of a high end hiss that I'm not too fond of, but I run and MXR 10 band EQ inline with it and it has done the job! It holds its own with the drum kit and other guitarists on stage.
