Editorial Reviews

Review

Snow's new book Amphetamine Syntheses is an excellent volley filled with facts, testimony, history and of course lots of chemistry. I found the book quite readable, easy to understand, and noteworthy so far as presenting the overlooked position of the independent neuroscientist and his world. I suspect you will see this book being used by a lot of lawyers, forensic chemists, social scientists and drug philosophers looking for some truth, facts, sanity and common-sense - all collected in one spot. -- Psychedelics ReImagined, Thomas Lyttle; Autonomedia 1998

From the Publisher

"Temendous! ...easy to read and understand. ...a "must have" for lawyers, police officers, chemists, counselors and anyone else working in or on the fringes of psychoactives." James R. Young, Ph.D., Forensic Chemist

"I was amazed at how you made the chemistry so easy to understand... I highly recommend your new book to all my brother and sister officers throughout the country." Gregory F. Lennon, Captain of Police (Ret)

2.0 out of 5 stars 2 Stars for effort, but was simply not deep enough., October 29, 2000

This book has some good information, but simply did not go into the explicit detail that I was hoping for. Some aspects of this book revolved around a lot of irrelevant chatter concerning statistical information. The pictures and diagrams are somewhat primitive.

Although well researched with many references and examples, the author clearly (At least in this book) is an observer. One who watches from the sideline and reports. I got the impression that he has never really had any hands on experience. I would not be surprised if he has never touched a simple thermometer.

If what you are after is an armchair theologian's view and best approximate guess as to how meth is processed and its surrounding statistical numerical data then this book is definitely for you. If you were to give a speech in front of the L.A.P.D and only had one point of reference material then this book is for you.

Under the conditions that what you want is to take a serious look into the manufacturing of and processing of chemicals to make meth or similar such substances then steer clear, cause this book is queer!!

2.0 out of 5 stars A cryptical introduction to lots of C's, H's, N's and O's, February 3, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Amphetamine Syntheses Overview & Reference Guide for Professionals (Paperback)
As a debutant psychonaut and amateur chemist (I had chemistry and Biochemistry classes in first, second and third year medschool), I found this title to be a good overview of the synthesis methodology of most (if not all) reactions involved in amphetamine manufacturing. However, the book does not contain any recepies as such, nor does it give you recounts of success- or failure psychonautica stories. That kind of information is available elswhere. If you are an accomplished biochemist or otherwise labrat, you will undoubtedly want to try the reactions asap. If you are medically inclined you will be shocked about how many of these formulas are available under the form of regular medication and commercial drugs. If you are a psychonaut you will be overwhelmed by the seemingly accurate (as far as I could tell) biochemical info. But you need to be all three to know how to get "practical" value out of this very theoretical work. Except for the ambiguous position of the author pertaining to the legitimation (for "law enforcement purposes") of his work and some interesting history and filosophy on the "analogues act", it is a very dry read indeed.
