5.0 out of 5 stars A Timeless Classic: Heavy Metal done in the traditional way !, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Ample Destruction (Audio CD)
I believe it is no exaggeration for me to claim that this Album is easily one of the all time top 10 albums, when it comes to Heavy Metal.
It has stood the test of time flawlessly, since it was first released in 1984. And it should certainly be mentioned in the same breath as when Metal Fans talk about their all time favorite albums. Meaning that it deserves to be placed in terms of ranking with such masterpieces as "Master of Puppets", "The Number of The Beast", or "Reign in Blood". The only striking difference is that it never received its deserved attention, and thus was never as popular, as the mentioned classics that all Metal fans love. Far from being popular this album is still (as unbelievable as that may be) an underground classic, that most Metal fans have never even had the priviledge of having heard.

There isen't a single thing on this CD that should have in any way been done differently. From the crisp sounding, low budget recording, that is surprisingly clear, to the superb musicianship, simply every note on this album seems just perfect. The Songs are all amazingly catchy tunes, with extrodinary lead guitars, pumping bass lines, precise and powerful drumming, and above all a singer that is simply out of this world, with his enormous, at times, high pitched vocal assaults. You will not find a single song that could not be called at least good, when really all of them are excellent hymns. Actually what Jag Panzer offered here was nothing less then a timeless classic and masterpiece, of exactly how Heavy Metal should always have sounded. The songs are filled with monster riffs, that just gab the listener and don't let him go until the entire 40 minute album is finally over. Really, here we have hymns and anthems for a whole generation ! I won't go into single songs, because as already mentioned they are all excellent. If a comparison is to be made, then the influences of these blessed musicians are great traditional Heavy Metal bands, like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath.
So if you like Heavy Metal, do yourself a huge favor and pick this CD up whenever you get a chance, because believe me you will love it. There isen't a single person that liked Metal for whom I played this CD that upon hearing it didn't immediately think that it was very good to outstanding. Unfortunately, you won't find this CD everywhere, since it
has really become a rarity ! Even back in the 80s it was consistenly hard to find (then as vinyl), but believe me the search is worth every penny that you might have to invest into this true timless Heavy Metal classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing early power metal., January 24, 2005
This review is from: Ample Destruction (Audio CD)
This album was originally released in 1984, at the beginning of the thrash/power metal revolution. This album was the cream of the crop, no other band, aside from possibly Helloween, crafted power metal albums this good in the 80's. This album should please fans of early thrash and fans of traditional and power metal. Best songs are Symphony Of Terror and Crucifix.

This album is rare, so if you find it get it as quickly as possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Before trad metal there was... well... more trad metal!!, June 29, 2010

A release discussed with reverence by long term metalheads in the same breath as Saxons Strong Arm of the Law or Metamorphoses by Sortilege as an album that should have launched its creators into the upper echelons it was with some trepidation that I got around to picking this up. You see, any album with that much gushing by the critics makes me nervous and expectant of a letdown once the play button is pushed.

I need not have feared for while this sort of trad metal is a genre I can only listen to occasionally when I'm the mood it really hits the spot. On this album this band of metal merchants have created a heads down chugfest that oft-times stays within quite set limits but such is its commitment and zeal the listener is carried away on a journey to studs `n' leather land circa the mid 80's. A tight rhythm attack helps the focus and future 2nd/3rd tier axe god Joey Taffola really brings home the bacon on track after track - tunes that are largely interchangeable but in a good way.

Lyrically it's all standard heavy metal cliché but again delivered with such conviction it becomes backwardly acceptable. Vocalist `The Tyrant' (no I'm not kidding) is not in possession of my favourite heavy metal voice but he gets the job done in the time honoured traditions of the genre.

The album proper has nine tracks and you get lyrics for these nine tunes. But this edition also has four bonus tracks from an EP. These numbers felt - to me at least - interchangeable with the tracks from the album proper. They are good to have and add value though to threaten to make the album overlong. All up, The Tyrant (vox, Rick Hilyard (D), Mark Briody (G), Joe Taffola (G) and John Tetley (B) can take a bow because for its genre this is a five star album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still holds its own against the top metal albums ever, January 7, 2010
This review is from: Ample Destruction (Audio CD)
I agree completely with the other reviewers that say this album should be included in any conversation involving top ten metal masterpieces. Each song is great. The production is raw but clear and heavy. The guitars are fantastic. Phenomenal vocals. It's truly amazing to think that when I first bought this in 1984 that I would still be listening to it 26 years later!!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a great album, October 18, 2006
This review is from: Ample Destruction (Audio CD)
This is a great metal album for 1984. Not many people knew of the band in those days. The guitar tone is perfect. This and the Death Row e.p. are the only two jag panzer titles I own, but both are amazing considering when they were released. I would say they are to power metal what VIO-LENCE is to bay area thrash.
