Customer Reviews

Leaf Plus Amplified Indoor HDTV Antenna Works as advertised.

It sucks, only able to see like five channels, it is better to buy an outside antenna, this won't work.
DEER
With other antennas I've only been able to get 28 channels, with the Leaf I can get 43.

I've owned both Leaf antennas and each one was hooked up to a splitter with 50 feet of coax going to two tvs. I tried adding an amp to the first leaf but it actually made the picture worse. The only difference as far as appearence is the leaf+ is very slightly larger and you have to plug it in (either the wall or usb on your tv.) The original leaf seemed to work great pulling in strong but not perfect signal strength but at night two of the channels wouldn't work and when a semi drove past the picture would get choppy. I should note that I live 30-60 miles from the towers.
I decided to send Mohu an email and see if I could get the amplified version and send back the regular one when I got the new one. It happened to be the 30th day after ordering the original so it fell into the timeframe for the 30 day money back warranty. They sent out the amped leaf and boy am I happy with it. Over half of the stations now have a 100% signal strength. The others are all above 85%. There are so many pros to this little antenna its amazing (size, portability, price, ease of use, and best of all its made in the USA!) The only con is that its not fully 'omni-directional' meaning you cannot place it whereever you want. It took some time to find the right spot for this thing to pick up all the channels. It was also not the most obvious choice for placement. I thought hanging it in the window facing the towers would be my best bet but I pick up a better signal with it not facing the windows at all... it might have something to do with the signals bouncing off the walls but I can't be totally sure about that. There's a site called antennafool that will help you check to see where the towers are and which channels you can get.

I received the antenna very quickly, and set up was very simple. According to the FCC maps I should have good reception for 11 stations, and moderate for 5 more. I was thrilled that with this INDOOR antenna I received more like forty stations very clearly. I played with the position somewhat and rescanned and depending where in the room I placed the antenna I received between 39-44. The image is so much clearer than what I was getting with cable. Thanks Mohu for a wonderful product!

Previously, we had an unattractive rabbit ears setup with the antenna stretching across almost six feet. We ordered this hoping for better looks and better quality, and it delivered on both counts. The Mohu Leaf Plus was very simple to install. It is the thickness of a laminated sheet of paper, and has a black side and a white side, and either side can face out. We mounted it white side out against a white wall, and it looks so much better than the old antenna. But the really great thing was the improved performance. The kids & I did a "before" and "after" experiment, surveying the channels we picked up and the picture quality of the old antenna and the Mohu Leaf Plus. Even better than expected: we gained ten channels, going from 19 to 29, and at least three clearer pictures. None of the channels were lost or looked worse on the Mohu Leaf Plus. If you're looking to cut your cable, you can't go wrong with this.

With the high cost of cable I began researching HDTV antenna's and internet TV. I told my son of my findings and saw the Mohu Leaf for the first time at his house. The picture quality was great and all of the stations it received was incredible. I knew I had to order one for our home.
I was about place my order with Amazon and I found that Mohu had a new Leaf Plus Amplified Indoor HDTV Antenna also reasonably priced. I decided to go for the amplified unit as we are in a rural location.
Because of the high Christmas holiday's order volume the Mohu customer support had informed me of a slight delay in my delivery of the new Leaf Plus. This very slight delay was compensated with an unexpected 10% rebate offer. I got a warm and fuzzy feeling that they really do care about their customers. The unit's performance is better than expected with all of our local stations and then some additional 18 stations. The HDTV signal strength and picture is remarkable. We will be adding more Mohu products in the near future. The Leaf along with a wireless internet media box can cut your monthly umbilical cable cord cost to almost nothing.

I tried it and returned it. On the plus side, it's attractive and easy to set-up.

But check the fcc.gov website (mb/engineering/maps) before you buy. Some stations appear to transmit on a particular channel but actually transmit on another channel. The Leaf appears to work well on stations which actually transmit on the UHF band. I even got a good and consistent picture on a distant (35 miles away) UHF station. However, some stations were allowed to remain on VHF after the conversion to HDTV. The Leaf does not work well with VHF signals - especially Low-VHF signals. Check the FCC map to see the actual channel your stations use. If any are listed as Lo-V or even Hi-V, you may want to consider an antenna listed as VHF-UHF (such as the Winegard SS-3000). If all your channels are UHF, The Leaf is probably a good choice for you.
