When set to the low resistance or low capacitance ranges, the unit's zero-adjust pots help eliminate stray resistance and capacitance for more accurate readings. My favorite feature of this meter: you can remove the leads and it has those cool little slits in the front, enabling you to test a dozens of capacitors per minute! No fussing with leads to test capacitors, this makes this meter fantastic for checking a lot of new capacitors quickly!
Well I immediately started testing dozens of electrolytic capacitors from my inventory and I quickly could discern that the meter was extremely rock solid and repeatable in its measurements. I tested some known capacitors that I have used a $20,000 Agilent rig in our lab at work to measure before and the accuracy of this meter was very good.
This CR50A meter immediately identified which manufacturers of capacitors in my inventory are very accurate on the stated capacitance of their caps, it immediately singled out three brands of premium Japanese capacitors as standouts when it comes to getting the precise capacitance you ordered. (Rubycon, Chemi-con, and Nichicon) - I was disappointed with the tolerance for Panasonic capacitors although it was well within the +/- 20% spec, while their reliability remains first rate, they should really try and get their capacitors stated values to less than 1% like these other three aforementioned premium brands have managed to, rather than the 6% off or so I was measuring.Read more ›
