RLD-1 Refrigerant Leak Detector

Troubleshoot Air-Conditioning Systems Quickly and Accurately

The Amprobe RLD-1 leak detector senses leaking refrigerant in home and heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) maintenance applications. The detector has a semiconductor sensor that detects halogenated refrigerants, including R-134a, R-404A, R-407C, R-410A, R-22, and Freon. It also has a built-in suction pump that cleans the sensor and improves efficiency. The attached flexible, stainless steel probe is 15.5 inch (400 mm) long and provides access to hard-to-reach areas. It has a sensor cap that protects the sensor during transportation and storage. The unit's ambient concentration reset feature uses the detected amount of airborne refrigerant as a zero point for all other measurements, helping to locate leaks in areas with airborne refrigerant. The sensor's sensitivity can be adjusted with the High-Medium-Low (H/M/L) function to help pinpoint the source of the leak.

Various Features and Functions

The Amprobe RLD-1 leak detector comes with a leak check bottle that serves as a reference leak source to verify that the unit is functioning properly. An audible buzzer and a display panel with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) indicate when the sensor is close to the source of the leak. The auto power-off feature turns off the unit after 10 minutes of non-use to conserve battery life, and a low-battery indicator signals when the meter's batteries need to be replaced. The unit comes with hard plastic carrying case that helps protect the leak detector from damage during transportation and storage.

This device beeps on everything even where there's no leak. I work at a company the manufactures air conditioners. This device was purchased to detect leaking units in the field. Everywhere the sensor made contact with any object it beeps, if shaken it beeps, if you bump it beeps, on wood it beeps, and on insulation it beeps. On two large multi-compressor units, where there are many access valves, you guessed it by now, it beeps.

So, I got the Inficon HLD 5000 from engineering newly calibrated cylinder and tested against the refrigerant (R410A), I was using with Amprobe RLD-1. I did not get one beep from the Inficon HLD 5000 at any of the same locations I used Amprobe RLD-1. Inficon was set to detect 0.25 ounces per year size leaks.

I have no time for wild goose chases.
