Product Description

The Amprobe TL35B test lead set contains two polyvinyl chloride (PVC) insulation lead wires with two threaded probe tips and two threaded alligator clips for connecting a compatible electrical test meter to a device in electrical testing applications. The lead wires are 40" and have standard probe tips that are held against the conductor during testing. The alligator clips (also called crocodile clips) screw onto the probe tips and have teeth that grip the conductor to provide a more secure, hands-free connection than the test probe tips. The clips have two jaws with a 0.60" jaw opening. The probe tips and the included alligator clips are threaded, allowing for a more secure connection than non-threaded tips and clips. The lead wires can be used with testing devices that have universal 4 mm jacks. The set meets International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) safety standard 61010 and is certified for category III installations up to 1,000V, which covers items used with enclosed building circuit installations (such as service panel parts, branch circuits, and fixed installations that are connected directly to a building's AC power supply). It conforms to applicable European Conformity (CE) directives.

A test probe, test lead, test prod, or scope probe transmits an electrical signal to a testing device for display and analysis. Designs range from simple test leads with probe-style or clamp-on tips to more complex oscilloscope probes and current detectors. Some test probes, such as basic test leads, have wires with tips for connecting to test equipment. Other test probes, such as voltage detectors, are built into the meter. Depending on what is to be tested, the probe might either be passive or have active parts that require external power to operate. Some probes require contact for testing, while some are capable of taking measurements from a distance. Some also have finger barriers, insulation, or other features to help protect the operator's hand from electrical shock and burns. Test probes are rated according to the amount of voltage, current, temperature, or other input they can measure. When choosing a test probe, the maximum amount of input that the probe can measure should match or exceed both the maximum amount that can be tested by the test equipment, as well as that of the property expected to be present in the application.

Amprobe manufactures electrical testing equipment for commercial, industrial, and home use. The company was founded in 1948 and is headquartered in Everett, WA.

I thought I was settling for functional yet disappointing when I bought these leads mostly based on a low price. However, I was very pleasantly surprised at the nice quality when they arrived. No, these aren't rubberized silicone leads, but given the expense of such leads I am quite happy with these instead. These leads are of far greater textural quality than I could have expected.

These leads fit perfectly into my old Fluke meter - not too snug & not too loose. The standard product photo does not show that the leads come with shrouds that can screw on & off the probes and protective inserts for use when the leads are not connected to a multimeter. I've uploaded some pics & added notes to show greater details for this product.

I decided on this Amprobe set after studying all available options for my 1988 vintage Fluke 77/AN meter.(Still works perfectly, 25 years later) No doubt I made the right choice. For months I had the Fluke premium set on my wish list, At $24+. This set was $16.00 and came with the best clips/clamps I have seen.

I think the great quality of the leads alone were a good buy. So I consider the clips like a huge bonus. And they are huge, and will grip any size wire I'm likely to encounter. The leads, compared with my Fluke leads look and feel about the same, very pliable. But in my opinion, the Amprobe plugs and probes are far superior to the Flukes. And just the 2 dinky little clips that I have with my Fluke now, are $28.00 alone. Ridiculous.

If you are on the fence, don't hesitate, buy these. You will not be sorry. With the quality of this set, paying more for less, is a total waste of money. As you can see from the age of my meter, and I had a few others before the Fluke, I've been at this for a long time. So with my experience, and my assessment of this Amprobe set. I highly recommend it as a great buy with superb quality.

Thanks for reading. I hope someone finds my review helpful in making a buying decision.

The probes and alligator clips in this kit are of decent quality but be aware that the alligator clips are HUGE! If you're looking for clips to use for small electronic work these aren't it, the clips are fine for larger electrical work but are not suitable for delicate electronics, simply too large for this use. The probes themselves are nice and have a screw on insulating plastic cover (not pictured) that covers all but the tip of the probe which is a plus.

I have a Greenlee DM-65, fits just as well as factory leads.

Beyond compatibility - these are a pretty clever design. They're dual function!

If you unscrew the covers, they become test probes and work as expected. but, near the base, there is threading. You simply slip over the clips and screw them onto the threads. Pretty excellent design, and I don't need a second set of leads to carry around.

As for the clips themselves - another reviewer has posted close-ups of the clips. The clips are pretty solid, and quite sizeable. Probably 3" or so. The metal on the clips extends all the way to the tip of the "nose." So, you can clip it onto smaller objects to if space is an issue.

All in all, these are pretty awesome for the price.

I am in the off grid solar system business and use my Amprobe meter one way or another almost every day. These are nice heavy duty clips with a wide jaw opening, good gripping power and well insulated. If you need to be hands free with your meter, this is a first rate choice.

These leads are good quality and well worth the money. The alligator clips are decently beefy and open wide enough to clamp on to a car battery terminal. The clips attach securely to the leads with metal threads and just flat out work well. They are also made in Taiwan instead of China which is a nice bonus.

These PVC insulated leads are excellent, not quite Fluke quality but very close and they cost much less.

The alligator clips are big and beefy, once they clamp on to something it's very secure. The plastic "handles" make them very easy to open and close with precision control. All connections are reliable and feel durable.

The probes have threading near the tip that the alligator clips (or plastic protective covers) screw into for a secure connection. It's easy to remove or attach the alligator clips as needed. The probes work great with or without the alligator clips attached.

Currently the Amazon product description indicates that these leads are silicone insulated, which is not the case. They are PVC insulated and will not work for extreme temperatures like silicone insulated leads will. If you need silicone insulated leads, check out the Fluke TL224 Fluke TL224 SureGrip Silicone Insulated Test Leads, Right Angle and Straight that work with Fluke AC285 clips Fluke AC285 SureGrip Alligator Clips. If you don't need silicone insulation get this product instead, the price is far better.

I use FLUKE meters, and usually only buy Fluke, or their other company, pomona which also makes and sells test leads etc--the same quality and exactly the same as fluke, but a few $ less. I saw these and thought--ok I will try them. When I received them I was very impressed at the quality, the soft rubber on the leads and the firmness of the grip by the alligator jaw. I cant say its as good as fluke, but its not 40$ either. Its very good quality that will not only do a very good job, but will also last a very long time IF---(big IF) you take care of them properly. I plugged them into two of my meters, and both meters--it was a nice tight connection and the measurements were the same as when I compared them to the fluke leads. For these reasons, price, quality, appearance, feel, and function, I give 5 stars without reservation. This is based on 35 years experience with electronics and using these kinds of things on an almost daily basis.
