I just received this book and after reading it in a weekend, had to leave a review. This book is a great text on mixed media jewelry fabrication. The book discusses concrete and faux bone (along with other interesting materials)as items that can be used in fabricating interesting, one of a kind jewelry. The projects are interesting and can be great places to start with your own designs. This book will be one of my favorites, along with Semiprecious Salvage and Altered Curiousities. If liked those books, you will probably like this one as well. All cold connections and the usual jewelry tools are all that you need. Robert also has a Faux Bone instructional video from CCP Videos. A great companion to the book.

After anxiously awaiting this book's publication, I haven't been able to stop saying "WOW" as I thumb my way through it. Robert is a terrific, inspiring teacher, (as well as all around nice guy!) and having this book is like having notes and images from the class. The first half of the book lays the ground work for the techniques and materials covered in the book. The second half contain the projects - each one more intriguing than the last! As a book jumkie, I often get a book, devour it and set it aside. With Robert's book, I can't wait to get started trying some of the new materials (concrete and Faux Bone) and projects!

This is a fabulous book for anyone looking for guidance in creating wearable art. Not only does Dancik clearly articulate how to work with non-traditional materials, but his careful and thorough written and illustrated instruction gently guides readers through each process. Lots of good information combined with lots of eye candy for inspiration. The projects are fabulous. I plan to bring this book along when I teach as a resource for my students. It's that good.

This book is a great value, for the guidance on tools and cold connections techniques alone. I've purchased over a dozen jewelry or beading books & magazines this year, including several specifically about mixed metal pieces, and this one is my favorite yet. Terrific photos, clear explanations, inspirational pieces & projects. Best advice I've ever seen for a novice on how to use the jewelers saw. Can't wait to try using the faux bone, which Dancik invented. You won't regret adding this to your library if you are interested in mixed media jewelry.

This book will teach you to transform your sentimental collection of bits and pieces that represent your most precious moments to wearable art. You can, therefore, "amplify their power to become amulets and talismans." The finished product is as rewarding as the process of creation.

My first impression of this book was "museum quality," and I was not surprised to read that the author's creations are on display at several museums, he is multi-published, and the inventor of his own material for artists.

The work here is astonishing. Even more outstanding is the author's ability to demonstrate his methods -- obviously learned through years of experience working with his own students. Nothing I say here could express the wonder of Amulets and Talismans: Simple Techniques for Creating Meaningful Jewelry.

GORGEOUS!

Great photos, awesome project ideas, but "simple techniques"? I'd have to disagree. Still, it has a lot of great ideas and the author is an amazingly talented person, that's for sure.

I was looking for some inspiration for my jewellery making and was delighted to find Robert Dancik's 'Amulets and Talismans". Beautifully illustrated with straight forward instructions, Mr Dancik also demontrates a rare spirituality in placing meaning with the jewellery we make for others. One of the best- love it!

This richly illustrated tech book is a must for those who want to explore the path of the mixed media objet. Dancik has brought his years of experience to play on the pages of the book, producing a clearly written manual with step by step processes that walk the reader through each project. He has chosen a difficult topic, the creation of meaningful jewelry, and his intention is realized at a level that can bring even the most beginning artist easily into the process.

This book offers projects that everyone can do. Found objects are used creatively, new products are presented, and new techniques are taught. Great basic book that should be in every crafters library.

What can I say? WOW! I'm new to jewelry making, so maybe I'm not the most sophisticated judge of what a great book on jewelry is, but I am an avid crafter and artist who loves to create my own wearable art. I have a library of thousands [truly, just ask Amazon] of how-to books that I continually use for reference on specific projects and can see that this book will have a long shelf life -- both as a learning tool and as an inspiration. Kudos to Robert Dancik for his clear and concise instruction, resource listing, and most importantly his beautiful examples of work. Many books on the market today have decent instructions, but Robert's book is one of that rare breed that is willing to showcase outstanding examples of high quality art and craft. I couldn't ask for more...unless it is another book.
