3.0 out of 5 stars Only Mildly Amusing
After his best album to date, 2003's "Run the Earth...Watch the Sky," Chris Rice left Rocketown to help start another imprint, eb+flo records. Two years later, he returns with this CD, which doesn't live up to his normal outstanding output.

Instead of going with his normal man to God themes, Chris decides to tackle human relationships this time around. He...

5.0 out of 5 stars Why didn't I buy this CD sooner?, February 7, 2006

That is truly the only question I can ask myself. I had listened to a few of Chris Rice's songs on the radio, but it wasn't until I recently heard "When Did You Fall" that I realized I should look further into his music. I am absolutely stunned by this CD. Chris writes surprisingly down-to-earth yet thought provoking lyrics, put to all sorts of wonderful and catchy melodies. I will be honest and tell you that I have never bought a Chris Rice CD before - in fact, I rarely buy any CDs - but this album has truly amazed me. Whenever I listen to this CD it makes me want to go write my own songs and express myself and my beliefs in all sorts of creative ways. For some reason, the music is just so engaging! Usually when I listen to music I hardly pay attention to the words, but the songs Chris writes really engage and move me in a pleasant way.

There really isn't a single bad track on this CD. My favorite track is definitely "When Did You Fall," a very melodious and jazzy love song which always puts me into an "everything is gonna be alright!" kind of mood. Of course, "Love Like Crazy" is another good song with a nice rockin' tune. In "Tick-Tock," Chris tackles the topic of living in the present - not looking backward to the past or ahead to the future but enjoying the beauty of the "now." In closing, I would say that there is something for everybody on this CD - in fact, not just something, but probably the entire CD! Whether you have never listened to Chris Rice before (like me) or have been a long time fan, I think you would be very amused, enriched, and inspired by this album. I certainly have been!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amusing is absolutely astounding, November 1, 2005

I disagree with the first review here...this is some of the best work Chris has released. 'When did you fall' is the song you should have played at your wedding....or the song you WILL play at your wedding! A beautiful song about love and all the moments a couple can share that make them fall in love.

Other stand outs include: Lemonade, Love like Crazy, The best song ever, The Final Move...simply put...get this album! Chris is a fantastic lyricist and can write some of the best songs, demonstrated here.

Brilliant Mr. Rice...

5.0 out of 5 stars Amusing so much more than Amusing, May 26, 2006

The week this CD came out, Chris was here in town for a release party and I was able to attend. I was so excited - my first chance to hear one of my favorite writer/artists.

I was not disappointed - as he worked his way through the CD's tracks, I became more and more excited. While I enjoy the singles that have made it on air to date, I find the other songs just as, if not more so, inspiring. My favorite is probably "Final Move", but I also got a kick out of Lemonade and Best Song ever.

If you are a long time fan of Chris Rice's music, perhaps like me you will appreciate this CD as much as each of the releases before.

If you're unfamilar with Chris's work, then check out some of his music and see if the acoustical style appeals to you.

I like the fact that the songs are about love and not worship as so many artists tend to do. Thank you and good album Chris.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, October 24, 2006

I am impressed. I bought this CD because of "When Did You Fall In Love." I listened to the whole CD and thought, oh great, I didn't realize it was a Christian cd, I should have just bought the single iTune.
To my surprise, the second time I listened to it, I completely got into the music. Growing up, I only listened to Christian music, but got out of the habit when I went to college years ago. Because of this CD I was able to ease myself back into it without feeling hokey.
The music, the beat, all of it is just catchy. I find myself singing the melodies all the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chris Rice is in love!, December 2, 2005
This review is from: Amusing (Audio CD)
Although I have not listened to all the songs on this CD (it's on my Christmas wish list), what I did hear I loved. What is so different about this CD is that it appears Mr. Rice is in love. I listened to a radio interview when the album first came out, and the DJ asked if rumors were true, and Rice said to just wait and see. I love Chris Rice's versatility, and I think that it really shows in this album. So, cut the guy a little slack, because any way you look at it, his music is amazing!

after reading some reviews of this cd which were not very enthusiastic, i thought twice before buying it. i have listened to and appreciated chris rice for years, so i gave it the benefit of the doubt and i'm so glad i did. each song touched my heart from the first time i heard it. it was disconcerting to go from "when did you fall" straight to the heartbreak of "breakfast table", i admit. but chris' intimacy and joy in the Lord is evident in every song. his lovely melodies and chord structures are there too. this album has ministered to me in many way, and i highly recommend it.

I first heard a song from this cd while getting my nails done! Not too often you get Christian music playing on a regular radio station! The song? When DId you Fall in Love With Me? I love it.
My husband and I have been together since highschool. We celebrate 29 years in 2007! We fell in love slowly and this song exactly describes how it happened. Suddenly I was flirting with him and it took a while for him to notice! A sweet song.

The other songs on here are just as touching. I like each one although I will have to skip the Breakfast with Jesus song on occasion because it touches me sadly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another amazing album!, September 4, 2005
This review is from: Amusing (Audio CD)
Chris Rice has a legacy of deep, moving, and simultaneously light-hearted albums. He's a truly brilliant songwriter, and once again delivers a wonderful collection of songs about the goodness and fullness of life. His latest release, "Amusing," has a fresh feel to it, both musically and lyrically. The songs are very pleasing to listen to, with gentle yet solid beats that compliment Rice's voice very well. The lyrics are--as usual--witty, poetic, and sometimes profound. Rice really has a knack for poetic writing and expression.

If you are even a slight fan of Rice's, you will very much enjoy this album. It's a must for the more seasoned fans. You will not be disappointed by Amusing.
