A must-have for any true Amy-phile.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Amy Grant (Audio CD)
As first albums go for 16 year old country girls who were never seeking stardom in the first place, this one stands at the top of a very small hill. Who would have guessed that this little girl would climb through the music community with roughly an album a year for the next twenty years of her life? This initial release, while inconspicuous at first glance, can't help but express the simple honesty of a voice that many would eventually find to be as comfortable as their living room easy chair. Amy glides through each song as though skating around her own block, causing us to smile with her as she enjoys the wind in her hair. She offers with sincerity her songs that have a message, most notably Mountain Top and What A Difference You've Made. But she also bares her soul to us unashamedly in revealing personal tunes such as Walking In The Light and The Lord Has A Will, many of which she wrote herself. Still, the production values don't venture out far from standard studio practices, which is to be expected on such an early effort for a young singer. Neither are there any surprises from Amy, herself. Nonetheless, this album serves as a good ramp into a career that has consistently matured and brought joy to millions of eager listners. Not bad for a country girl. Not bad at all.

awesome amy!,

Amy's first Album, simply titled "Amy Grant" is so beatuiful. It truely captures the simplicity of a faith of a young person. Her vocals are that of a 17 year old,who in 1977, expressed how she felt through song. I really enjoy this album, Amy is also given a chance to display her PHENOMINAL (but early) songwriting skills on this album,as a few songs such as my favorite "Walking in the Light" display Amy's perspecive of a simply true and strong love for our Creator. Amy Grant has grown so much since this early recording- it's a great glimpse at the early work of chirstian music's ledgend!

Her 1978 debut.,
By John Sposato (Syracuse, NY, USA) - See all my reviews

This was her first album, released early 1978 by Myrrh/Word Records, then on the secular market by A&M in 1984, and 1993 by RCA. She was still in high school when she cut this album. Most of the songs have some naivete, which gave her comparisons to Debby Boone and Evie, the cross-over sensations of the moment. Some could be put on children's Christian compilation LPs. Her voice even sounded different. If you're only into her pop material, this may not be for you.

Her First is Her Best,

I am a huge Amy Grant fan. She is one of the most talented artist musicians of our times. Her early albums are very uplifting and refreshing, especially this one. I love listening to her sing as a teen, with her talent already very pronounced and the spiritual component of her music so prominent in the lyrics. A must have for any Amy Grant fan, or anyone who enjoys Christian music.

I have loved this album since I was a little girl. It blends upbeat lyrics with charming melodies that make you want to sing! There is a good balance between fun, even comedic songs with more thoughtful creations with gently touching lyrical phrases. This is definately one of my favorite albums not only by Amy Grant but in the Christian genre as a whole! Listening to it is a truly inspirational experience.

Amy with her unique Worship,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Amy Grant (Audio CD)
Amy Grant's debut album is an excellent, fun-filled, clean CD. But I was surprised about how short it was. 13 tracks and only 36 minutes. Even after considering this is from 1977 (all songs were short then) I still couldn't beleive it. Even that didn't keep me from buying her next 2 albums. If you want to get your first Amy Grant CD, choose this, AGE TO AGE, or LEAD ME ON.

Amy Grant her first album,

This was Amy Grants first album she did when she was 16 years old and the youngest artist Myrrh records had. I was only 10 at the time when I first heard her sing. Her songs moved me and since then I'd been a big fan of hers. Like her I was on the road alot with my family. My father was a singer with his own band and he too cut albums. My brother sometimes would play the drums and my sister and I sometimes sang in my father's band. So I knew what it was like. Sometimes it was hardwork, sometimes it was fun. Everytime my family and I traveled down the road to my father's next gig we played her songs on the cassette player cause that's what I had at the time. Amy Grant's soothing voice just never quits even in her second album My Father's Eyes was another beautiful album she'd done bring out her soft voice, the melodies she sang is just so uplifting. I really do enjoy listening to her sing so,whenever I sit back and relax for awhile and I hear her earlest works it reminds me of my own time and just how great she was then and still is today.
