5.0 out of 5 stars one of the most tasteful & reverent Christmas TV shows ever, December 31, 1997
This review is from: Amy Grant's Old Fashioned Christmas [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a gem enjoyed by my family & myself(an Amy fanatic!)-includes songs from her 1st Christmas album; "The Animals' Christmas"(the Jimmy Webb cantata she did w/Art Garfunkel in 1986); a tender rendition of "Away in a Manger"(not available on any Amy album); & excellent concert footage of her "Unguarded" tour-a must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Old-Fashioned Christmas!!, November 20, 2004

This is one of those early Amy Grant special Christmas programs which include not only her own music, but the traditional and reverential music of the season. She is joined by her family and friends by the fireplace, with some very special guests, and we see the snow, sled, and the Christmas tree with all the trimmings, as well as the brilliant colors of the season.

A very beautiful film!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music and scenery!, December 9, 2010
By
This review is from: Amy Grant's Old Fashioned Christmas [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Amy Grant's first TV Christmas special from 1986 packs a lot in one hour: songs from her first Christmas album and "The Animals Christmas" album she did with Art Garfunkel; guest appearances by Garfunkel, Dennis Weaver and Ed Begley, Jr. (of all people); and awesome Montana scenery. The fictional plotline follows Amy as she's in Montana on her "Unguarded" concert tour just before Christmas. Before "Headin' Home for the Holidays" (as the original show was called), Amy and then-husband Gary decide to take in the scenery and shop for Christmas presents. Their truck runs out of gas in front of a ranch and they meet up with the town's people, eventually performing at their Christmas concert that night. A bit cheesy, but it sets up the songs and various segments, including a mildly humorous one involving Ed Begley, Jr. as a shop owner selling crazy knick-knacks. Though they weren't bad, I really wish these segments were replaced with more songs.

The big plus of this video is that it showcases songs from Amy's and Art Garfunkel's little-known but wonderful "Animals Christmas" album, with songs written by Jimmy Webb. If anything it will get people interested in this unique Christmas album, which has since been out of print but can still be found.
