Editorial Reviews

Review

"Amy and Gully with Aliens is about compassion, interconnectedness, and pure intention. But don't let the loftiness of that give you the impression this book isn't juicy enough for the nine to twelve set. In this fast-paced adventure story, Amy and Gully are taken hostage on a flying saucer. They manage to outsmart the aliens—only to discover they may have made things worse."—Shambhala Sun

"The Amy and Gully books are an imaginative way to get across to young children and even teenagers the beauty of happiness, kindness, love, and good deeds. They are written in a way that engages the readers, showing a spirit of adventure which is always entrancing and fun. I know the stories will affect all readers, whatever age, and make them think twice about being nasty or selfish. They certainly had that effect on me."—Mandala Magazine, Editor's Choice

Format: Paperback
Amy & Gully with Aliens is an enchantingly original story-within-a-story adventure that features two school-age children who find out that reality is much more than it seems. They also discover that good intentions and kind hearts can really make a difference in ways they never anticipated and that hatred brings about its own suffering.

In addition to Amy and Gully, the book includes a spaceship with bumbling androids, the evil Zarg, the luminous alien Mala, and royalty in an interactive live-action drama; and back at school, Mrs. Clearpot, a self-important teacher who gets her comeuppance.

W.W. Rowe has a marvelous gift for storytelling, a lively, authentic voice and an intact funny bone. This page-turner is a sheer delight.

You needn't wait for this book to become a movie. It already is! With Mr. Rowe's deft direction, your imagination does the rest.

WARNING: Reader, hold on! Get ready for wild ups and downs like a roller coaster! A class assignment starts off a whirlwind of adventures with Aliens, who, (strange as they are) are a lot like human beings: smart, stupid, clever, devious, harmful, hateful, loving and loyal. Amy and Gully (and You) will meet them all, head on.

And when the read is done, darned if you haven't learned some very important things about living life - and the Aliens you'll meet along the way.

Amy and Gully are delightful and captivating youngsters who love adventure. The author's sense of humor, action and creativity blended with a compassionate story of kindness makes this a must-read children's book, including the teen years! Of course, I had to read it before giving it to the grandchildren, and I smiled all the way through. Mr. Rowe captures the essence of being good to others so that the youngest child can truly understand what compassion means. "Aliens" rocks! I can't wait for the next book!!

Amy and Gully With Aliens offers a delightful lesson in kindness. The best feature of the book, which is extremely well-written, is the involvement of the children in making decisions that require compassion and understanding. Amy and Gully show genuine concern for others in need, and a strong sense of awareness. The conclusion shows their lessons from the trip were well learned.
