PreSchool-K When Amy visits the park with her mother on a blustery afternoon, she learns what the wind can do as it blows the clouds, balloons, kites, leaves, etc. When the wind blows a boy's cap off, Amy worries about her hat, but it is snugly tied on. The story is simply told with only a sentence or two per double - page spread. Joyful text and bright colored pencil and watercolor illustrations are nicely integrated to capture the spirit of a child's first adventure out of doors , and it ends reassuringly with Amy and Mom in a hug. As a first book for preschoolers, it compares favorably with other "wind" theme storybooks. Pat Hutchins' The Wind Blew (Macmillan, 1974) takes a different outlandishly humorous approach, while the classic Gilberto and the Wind (Viking, 1963) is a quietly eloquent encounter with much longer text.
