5.0 out of 5 stars Old Fashioned Comfort Food
I bought 2 dozen cans when it was on sale at my local natural food store. I wound up eating it every single day for 24 days in a row! It is very creamy with tons of chunks of mushroom soup. I also chop up some fresh mushrooms, parsely and a little garlic to "pump it up". The soup is just fine as it is from the can, but what can I say but that I am totally addicted to...

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT gluten free and not really soy-free
I am allergic to soy. I bought a case of this soup, thinking I could share the case with two friends who are gluten intolerant. WRONG! The description says "Contains no soy, Contains no GMO's, Contains gluten", and I simply read it wrong, adding a 'no' in front of the gluten. Looking through the reviews, I'm not the only one who made this mistake. Luckily I can keep the...

I bought 2 dozen cans when it was on sale at my local natural food store. I wound up eating it every single day for 24 days in a row! It is very creamy with tons of chunks of mushroom soup. I also chop up some fresh mushrooms, parsely and a little garlic to "pump it up". The soup is just fine as it is from the can, but what can I say but that I am totally addicted to mushrooms since they are very low calorie, high in fiber and are a good source of Vitamin B! The soup has quite a high ratio of little mushroom bits, but I like to add some of my own fresh mushrooms to add to the texture.

On a cold winter day it makes a great "comfort food" Reminds me of homemade soup - very healthy ingredients. This is a stape in my house and I order it regularly through Amazons "Super Saver" - can't beat this deal, 15% DISCOUNT plus free shipping - why bother to go to the market when it can be delivered to your door?

Although the directions on the can say to add milk or cream it isn't at all necessary. The soup in the can is really creamy already.

I like to eat this soup with some whole wheat toast. This makes a nice little healthy snack.

Luckily I can keep the rest of the soup for myself, so it wasn't a total waste. It's not an amazing soup, I don't know that I'd want to eat it by itself, but it's good for what I need it for - a soy-free cream of mushroom soup that I can use in casseroles, etc. For that, it's great!

IMPORTANT EDIT: After using this soup for a few months, I started having a reaction to it. The Amy's brand is vegetarian and uses a lot of soy in their foods, and either through cross-contamination or a change of formula, I can no longer eat it (or any of the Amy's soups) without having a bad reaction. If you are very sensitive to soy, be aware!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I feel it's too good to waste in recipes, January 24, 2010

I got these to use in recipes.

I was really hungry one day, and didn't have time, so I just poured a can in a bowl and microwaved it. I didn't add anything (I didn't read the instructions that say to add 1/4 can milk).

It was unbelievably good (it smelled great too, smelled like a whole meal). Now I feel bad using it in anything because it's so good by itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars this soup will spoil you, December 5, 2008
This review is from: Amy's Organic Cream of Mushroom Soup, 14.1-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
If all you've got to compare this to is Campbell's version, you are in for a treat deluxe. Or perhaps you will be a little freaked out by the difference. One of the two. :-)

This is not a gloppy, mushroom-free zone kind of soup. Nope, it's thick and flecked with mushroom bits along with chunks that don't have the consistency of rubber. You can taste the butter in this one; it's not strictly a low-cal food.

It makes a great soup all on its own, and I'm totally in favor of a bowl of this with some Ryvita Pumpkin seeds and Oats crackers Ryvita Whole Grain Rye Crispbread, Pumpkin Seeds & Oats, 7-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 10) on the side.

I also like this soup as a sauce for a variety of vegetables and even for meats like pork chops and chicken breasts. Normally, I find chicken breasts too dry and dense, but when simmered in this soup for about 20 minutes, they come out moist and flavorful. Yummy! Same goes for pork chops that you've first lightly browned then smothered with this soup and simmered over low heat for 30 minutes or so. Majorly yummy.

One last thing I do with this soup is use it with pasta, like whole wheat elbow macaroni or rotini. Like other reviewers, I "pump up" the soup with fresh mushies and perhaps even some diced onion and green peppers.

Whether you consume this as a soup or use it as sauce for other veggies/meats/grains/pastas, you'll be pretty pleased.

And hey--it's organic, non-GMO, etc. What's to not like?

Since learning to be conscious about reading labels lately, I have dropped using Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup. I find that Amy's Organic Cream of Mushroom Soup, diluted with either milk, water or sour cream does just as great a job. Even better since it's more healthy for you. I use it mainly over mashed potates (as a gravy) and steamed fresh veggies (as a sauce). It's even excellent as plain Cream of Mushroom soup!!

Great to have on hand for recipes calling for cream of mushroom soup. Much better than other brands, that have so many added things to it. I use this alot in cooking.
