Works fairly well
on November 1, 2013
After using for a week or so with a 32 gb memory card (recording in HD), the camera told me that the memory card was full. I thought it was set up to automatically start recording over the oldest video file, but I can't figure out how to get it to do that. If this camera had that capability (I thought it did from the product's description), it would be a four-star. If anyone has figured out how to do this, please comment on this review!
Aside from this issue, the camera is OK. You will see license plate numbers only if you're very close, generally only pulled up behind another vehicle at a stop-light. Night-time recording isn't that great (not surprised from a $25 dash cam). Daytime video is decent quality; I put the sd card into my laptop and the videos were easily viewable. The menu on the unit itself is reasonably intuitive. I keep it plugged in all the time to the cigarette lighter, and it does turn on automatically at start-up and shut itself off after shut down (you can choose how long.)
I really wanted something that I could set and forget and of course use in case of an accident with all the morons joining me on my daily commute. This unit works pretty well in that capacity until the memory card is full and it stops recording. The good thing is that the camera tells you that memory is full and old files can be easily erased, so if there isn't anything you need to keep, just delete them all and start over.
All in all, not a bad unit for the price.
