1.0 out of 5 stars Got 2, one of them worked for a week...
I bought two of these cables, one for work and one for my car. One of them fell apart when I pulled on the cable for the first time. The other cable worked for a week, but now the locking mechanism wont lock, which is very annoying. For the week that it did work, it was great, but the quality control on this product is horrible.

I got this to use primarily with my Motorola Droid phone which uses the Micro USB port. The cable is so small I leave it in my coat pocket and have it with me at all times. The extend and retract action is smooth, charging and data transfers work. Nice price, product works, can't ask for much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works on my Kindle 2, August 6, 2009

The question for me was does this work on Kindle 2. YES or NO?
Answer for me is yes, at least on my equipment (nothing proprietary). Works fine for data and charging on Kindle 2. I use a lot of these retractable cables to keep my desk a bit cleaner from cable clutter and make traveling easier. This looks just like a retractable from another seller (not all) so maybe there is a factory making these for multiple companies. Because these are retractable the cable might be smaller, just be careful to pull on plug not the cable when removing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for the HTC EVO 4G, December 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Amzer Micro USB Retractable Data Cable - Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
After reading many reviews on this item, I wanted to provide some information about this cable's compatibility with the HTC EVO 4G from Sprint.

Several reviews on amazon say that this cable is not compatible with the EVO, which is not accurate. I have used this cable to charge, dock, tether, and sync my EVO flawlessly. The cable stretches out to about two feet long, but there is MORE than enough room to connect your phone to your laptop with the cord not stretched out. Some people have complained about it breaking from extending/contracting the cord too many times, but if you're just charging the phone on a laptop, there's really no need to extend the cable.

Another interesting (and on this website, unaddressed thus far) aspect of this cable is that is comes with a small hole on the side of it so it can be attached to a keyring. This is important (especially for guys who can't carry this around in a purse), as you can have the comfort of knowing you'll have the ability to charge your phone anytime you're out without having to think about it. The single downside to the EVO is its horrendous battery life. It's highly unlikely that a single charge will get a person through a business or school day without subsequent charging, so this accessory is as important to EVO owners as a ZAGG shield and case are.

Nonetheless, this is a very nice cord that is very portable. As a micro-USB, it will be compatible with almost every phone that has been released in the past 12-18 months on all major carriers, and works perfectly with the HTC EVO 4G. I do not know if it syncs other smartphones, but it does sync the EVO running on Android 2.2.

If you're not tech-savy, you should know that this cord will NOT work with any version of the Apple iPod, iPad, or iPhone.

1.0 out of 5 stars broke quickly, July 11, 2010

I bought it cuz it looked cheap and decent. Turns out it was just cheap.

I used it for a couple weeks, for plugging my Droid into my computer. Probably extended/retracted it a dozen or so times.

Then it broke. The internal spring popped out of the center that the cord wraps around. After I messed with it to get it back in, the cable only retracts halfway.

Halfway working is broken, in my book, despite the data transmission aspect still being fine.

I'm going to go buy a better quality cable, if I can find one for a reasonable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Travel Cable, August 18, 2010

Not really much to it but its does exactly what its meant to do. I bought two for my HTC Incredible and they provide both charging and data connectivity. Retractable cables are the best and easy to stow.

Many users are reporting that these are cheap and break easy. I've owned mine for a few months now and use it daily, doesn't seem to be the case. These ARE plastic and not meant to be man-handled.

PROS
- Price
- Works with any micro USB device
- Provides both data and charging capabilities
- Retractable and easy to store

CONS
- None!

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with my Kindle 2, February 25, 2009

The Kindle 2 use the micro-USB standard for power and data, so I was hoping to use this Amzer retractable cable as a compact power+data cable. The Amzer cable plugs in to my Kindle OK, but unfortunately Windows then reports "USB device not recognized".

I've tried this on two PCs. In both cases the micro-USB cable supplied by Amazon works fine for both charging and data transfer. But when I try to use the Amzer cable, on the same USB port, I get told "USB device not recognized". I've tried fiddling with Windows (including rebooting) but without success.

On my desktop system, the Amzer cable does succeed in delivering power to the Kindle, so I can use the cable for recharging. However on my laptop, the Kindle doesn't even get power. I suspect this is because some USB controllers (especially on laptops) will only deliver power to "recognized" USB devices.

I can't tell if my problem is due to some specific defect in my cable or whether there is a generic incompatibility between the Kindle 2 and the Amzer product. In either case, I'd recommend against this product for use with the Kindle 2.

I wanted a mini USB to hook up to my Kindle Fire and my laptop computer. This one is perfect for my needs and will store nicely due to the retractable cable. It appears to be well made.

2.0 out of 5 stars retraction mechanism broke after 1 month of light use, June 2, 2010
This review is from: Amzer Micro USB Retractable Data Cable - Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I rarely used this item, but, less than one month after purchasing it, the retraction mechanism broke and now the cable doesn't retract. I might as well have stuck with a standard (cheaper) micro-USB cable.
