Amzer Rubberized Snap On Crystal Hard Case for Motorola Droid A855 (Black)

I bought this on Amazon for my Motorola Droid. I reviewed the product here and on the manufacturer website. The manufacturer has this product AND a silicone shell. The silicone shell was out of stock, so I chose to try this.

Pros: The shell is a hard case that would protect the phone should you drop the phone.

Cons: Unfortunately, I have many more. They are all personal preference, but justify my rating. First, the casing was slightly difficult to attach to the sliding screen. Just when I thought I had it on, it would pop off. Granted, it only took an additional 5-10 minutes to get it on right, but I was continually leery that it would pop off again. Second, with the hard shell on, it made it more difficult to use the to row of keys on the slide out keyboard. I don't have long fingernails and typically use the pads of my fingers or the tips to type/text. I found that when I would try and use the top row, my fingers would be displaced and I regularly hit two keys (the one I was aiming for and the one below it) or the key below the one I was aiming for. The extra bulk of the shell pushed my finger away from its target. Third, on my phone, when I attached the shell, the slide action on the phone became much more rigid and felt like it was jammed or scraping somewhere. I can't identify where, though, because I did not see any marks. And finally, after having the shell on for ~3 days, I noticed that in some areas, the black (insert color) coating on the shell was coming off to reveal the white plastic underneath. I keep the phone in my pocket, so the fact that it started to wear so early on was concerning.

I may try and get the silicone case in the next few weeks, but am not pleased with this purchase. I'll post an update if the silicone case if worth it so those who read this review can compare.

I was pretty excited to be getting a soft-touch rubberized hard case for my Droid, but was really disappointed by what arrived in the mail two weeks ago. First off, like others have mentioned, the paint job on this case was either not completely or done by someone who clearly didn't care enough to finish the job. There are numerous white spots of bare plastic showing on all the edges of the case I received, and it makes the phone look tacky and like it's been worn down.

The case does add a fair bit of bulk to the phone, and there's a rather unsightly hip holster opening on the back of the case. This would be fine would I be one of those guys who wears his phone on his hip (I'm not). So, this square opening on the back just looks funny and adds to the unfinished and unprofessional essence of this case.

After about a week of use I noticed that the upper part of the case that goes around the edges of the screen would pop off very easily. This doesn't bode well as if this starts to happen in a week, what's going to go wrong in a month? Two months? A year?

But here's the bottom line: over the Thanksgiving break while traveling to visit with family, I found myself taking the Droid out of the case to show it off to my loved ones (hey, it's a cool gadget, I wanna flaunt it!). I did this because I couldn't stand how ugly this case is, and how poorly is showcases the phone. I want a case that protects my phone, but also one that looks like it was made by someone who cares and can at least finish spraying on that soft-touch finish. Not recommended, needless to say.

Bought this at the Verizon store. It was easy enough to put on the phone and seems to protect it pretty well unless something hits the screen directly. After only a few hours the case started popping off on the top corner by the power button on the bottom half which goes around the keyboard. Haven't had any problems with the top half which goes around the screen yet. The green LED to show messages is NOT covered up by this case and it still slides open for the keyboard but does take a little space from the top row of keys since the cover sticks out a little. If it keeps popping off and gets annoying I'll probably stop using it.

First off, the photo up there is a just a quick photoshop job as you can tell from looking at the multicolor ones on another site, the real one does not cover up the verizon logo, though I wish it did. Maybe I will try rubbing alcohol to remove that logo. I added several photos to give a picture view.

+Looks pretty good and fits the 80's retro style of the phone well
+Should protect it better than those plastic strip "armor" packages which seems like they would only stop scratches
+Soft rubber feel like the default back cover of the phone
+Does not block the keyboard typing or sliding smoothness at all.
+Not too much additional bulk to the phone
+Covers all the terrible logos on the back of the phone
+Holds on fairly well. I had the top part on backwards and it was pretty loose, it looks symmetrical but after switching it around it was much improved. You could probably trust it to use the belt clip.

-Spray on rubber was not done well, there are lots of visible white edges around the back piece. Used magic marker to make it look decent, but I'm sure that will come off with out a proper new paint job.
-There is also a small chunk that looks like it stuck to something and ripped off the rubber on part of the front cover, see photos.
-Parts on side of the screen are not firm enough and can be pulled away from the screen and makes creaking sound when picking up.
-Designed in USA / made in China according to the label, should have been made in the USA, considering the price and the resulting flaws. If only they took as much pride in manufacturing as they do in their food.
-Real slow shipping, took a week with expedited shipping.
-Microphone is covered up somewhat, not sure how that will affect sound quality.
-The hole in the back to connect to the belt holder sticks out further than the edges of the phone making it rock and shift noisily while phone is vibrating.


I will probably keep it, I had dropped it on the concrete before I ordered this and wish I had it then.

I bought this case from the VZW store because I wanted to get the "Official" perfect fitting cover and not a cheap generic one. Well, I was wrong. To make it short, it doesn't fit. the top right edge of the base cover keeps popping off and I'm afraid if I try any harder to press it into place, I will break the phone, which would pretty much defeat the purpose. Don't bother with this one.

Thin shell, no protection whatsoever for face of phone (which is probably the weakest part). Fits OK, but makes access to keyboard more difficult. Overall seems to offer very little protection, not worth the money.

I have to say that this product does what it is supposed to do...when the top cover stays on. This is a two-piece cover and the bottom portion work perfectly. The top piece is obviously much thinner and pops off VERY easily. When the cover is in place and the phone is sitting on a table, it looks good, sleek, and has a good feel to it. Realistically, most of us carry phones in our pockets or purses (I don't have a purse). The top cover pops off almost every time I try to pull the phone out of my front pocket. True, it is very easy to pop back in place, but it's just frustrating. Sometimes it will pop off by simply sliding the keyboard out.

This is a "good" case for the cheap price, but I wish I would have spent more and got one that stayed on better. I even wrote in to the company's email with my problem. The response was pretty much an "I'm Sorry" and "I had the same issue with my first case." Seriously... I was hoping for a more concerned response that gave me some options for possibly returning the case. At least sending out a new one where the top would stay on better.

I was pretty frustrated with that response, but I figured...it was only $15 and not worth the fight.

Buy this case if you are looking to spend very little money. If you can handle the top popping off here and there, then it will be a good case for you.

I bought this type of case at the Verizon store, but I never use it because it is not compatible with the media dock and car holder.

To start, i have the originally motorola droid. i do believe this item is for it, right? It didn't fit my phone. The only good part about this product is that it did fit the back half of my phone and has yet to break with the many times i've dropped it. (i've gone through cases in a day). I've had this for over a month. it has chipped, but is still very well in contact. the front cover will not fit my phone at all though. even with two people trying to squeeze it on... there was no way in h*** it was going on there. i was VERY disappointed with that. Honestly, if you only want something to cover the back half of your phone.. buy this. it is a sturdy case. i've dropped it many times onto a concrete floor while running and both my phone n the case are completely in tact. it's very durable. but if you want something for both front and back half of your phone, don't get this. you'll be disappointed.

First of all not only does it not stay on, but it has cut outs at the botttom of the case covering all 4 buttons...DON'T BUY!!!!
