Book Description

It is ten years into the future and the nation’s government is nearing financial and moral collapse. A small group (the TLR) believes deadly force is necessary to save individual liberty from the two-party political aristocracy that divides and controls Congress. They believe dictatorial powers will soon be claimed by the federal government. They announce to the nation . . . and ours is the only form of revolution now possible. But it has this advantage. If lives must be taken, only ours or those that have stolen our lives will be required to forfeit theirs.
They give Congress three days . . . to approve their proposed Term Limits Amendment to the Constitution that prevents professional politicians from serving in Congress. Or, unless they first resign, the long term incumbents will be term-limited in the only way they leave us.
The Department of Justice targets term limits supporters and libertarians in its hunt for the terrorist group. But when the first senator is “term-limited” in spite of all that federal authorities can do to stop it, it is clear the terrorists will not be easily found. They are inside the federal law enforcement agencies that are hunting them.
In this novel, I examine the issue that Thomas Jefferson predicted we would be forced to deal with. All three branches of our federal government have ignored the Constitutions protection of the individual’s rights. They have increased their own powers far beyond the limits provided in the Constitution. But what can we do about it? If our liberties, our right to make our own choices, are diminishing with every year, how do we ever regain them? Is deadly force justified?

5.0 out of 5 stars An Act of Self-Defense September 22, 2010
Format:Paperback
An Act of Self-Defense is an edge-of-your-seat ride from beginning to end. This political thriller provides tense moments and tears and really makes you unable to put it down until the end.

The characters are well thought out. The sensibilities of the main players, which ebb and flow with the events keep you wondering what their next act will be - agents who may or may not commit treason; freedom fighters who may or may not give in. It makes you wonder how far you would go yourself and truly think deeply about the direction our country is heading in the present.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart Pounding Page Turner September 20, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
A high octane, adrenaline-powered debut novel. Lewis puts the reader into the most important issues we face today. He tells the story in a way that puts us there naturally with well developed and intriguing characters at war with a smothering and corrupt government. It's a powerful argument for individual liberty that kept me reading until I finished. And still, two weeks later I can't stop thinking about it. Lewis has created an exceptional novel that leaves no doubt he is a writer with a bright future.

5.0 out of 5 stars "An Act of Self-Defense" by Erne Lewis October 14, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
It is amazing to me that this is a first novel for Erne Lewis. What a talent! This book flows with skill and confidence as from a seasoned, award-winning writer. - I found it to be all at once thought-provoking, eye-opening, prophetic, exciting and inspiring. I believe that Thomas Jefferson is thinking Mr. Lewis has done a great job "carrying the torch" for the "land of the free and the home of the brave". I was not able to put down this fast-paced, gripping, political cliff-hanger. I shall be sending copies to thinking, open-minded family members, friends and acquaintances who love our country and Liberty. It would make a great film!!! I sincerely thank Mr. Lewis for this exceptional and timely literary piece.

Great story, timely, can't believe he got away with getting it published. Would have thought he'd end up on a list, or maybe that's just residual paranoia from the tale he told!! Read more

More About the Author

Erne lives in Port Ludlow, Washington where he is now working on Drug War, his next novel, and where he sometimes races his Etchells sloop in the local regattas. Erne was a Seattle architect for several years, then a salmon aquaculturist in Oregon for 17 years, subsequently an entrepreneur-businessman, political activist and an ocean cruising sailor. In 2000 Erne ran for Congress as the Libertarian Party candidate. He also led a petition drive to remove Washington State's corrosive and unjust asset forfeiture laws. Erne believes pandering power-seeking career politicians are a primary reason for the constant war and chaos our nation and the world endure. It was that observation that led him to write An Act of Self-Defense.
