Product Description

One reviewer stated that "My definition of this genre is to set a fictional plot amidst an actual historical event, it is actually a very difficult genre to excel at." The author weaves the tale of actual events while the characters are peripherally associated. It is the story of a US Navy Cryptographer with the highest of security clearances stationed at a US Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida who is recruited by the CIA to unmask the mysterious daughter of billionaire arms dealer Claus Scheyk, both suspected KGB operatives. A love affair lasting more than a decade results, changing lives and history forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Would You Do For Love And Country?, January 23, 2011
This review is from: An American's Story (Kindle Edition)
In this ebook novel the reader gets an intriguing and exciting blend of fiction, true history and awe-inspiring travel. Set in 1961 we're immersed in facts of the Cuban-Russian Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War, along with first-time public disclosures of classified events.

An American's Story has something for everyone, whether you're a history buff, are pulled in by spy novels, or enjoy stories of passion and romance, An American's Story covers it all. To say that it's highly entertaining is an understatement. You'll be swept away by the characters and events, while you turn the digital pages.

More About the Author

My latest book "An American's Story" is controversial and a personal retrospective. I am not hiding behind the name Gaston Delesdandroux but I do prefer that I maintain some semblance of privacy, even as a writer of a controversial book. Although I have written many books, this is the only one using Delesdandroux.

It is not that I am afraid of public disclosure but I worry about those close to me, such as my wife, relatives and friends.

I am not unaccostomed to such disclosures! As an investigative reporter in the 1980's I was indicted and prosecuted in a Federal trial for extortion, due to events tied to my investigative reporting for newspapers. I was acquitted at trial. I wrote a book about the case and a movie was made about it. An Emmy Award winning actor portrayed me in the movie. So, yes, I am aware of the ramifications of publicity.

Now I am 70 years of age, and for the past few years, I have lived quitely, traveling about the world with my wife, finding pleasures and great friends in such places as Singapore, Hong Kong, Paris and London.

Your question must be: Why disrupt this normal, quite life with a controversial novel? Good question and I have only one answer for it: I waited nearly 50 years to write this story and after I started it, I knew I would stay with it until it ended.

One more thing: I discovered that remembering the truth about the events of the Cold War in the 1960's was easy, although very uncomfortable, particularly concerning the personal relationships described.

I had to wait 50 years before publishing to make absolutely certain that nothing divulged in the book is still Top Secret and so that the persons described are composites of actual persons in some instances.

I have a confession to make about writing this book: When I was done, there was blood on the keyboard!

Remembering was easy, but re-living the memories are difficult.
