If so, this book captures the essence of the Bible in a simple, yet straightforward manner. This book is perfect for anyone who is trying to figure out how to find that elusive peace and forgiveness that we all seem to be searching for. In a compelling manner, the author distills the message of Scripture into an easy-to-read format so that we can know our standing before God -- and clearly explains how we can be saved from our sins and on the road to heaven.

An Anchor for the Soul is a primer in helping seekers and new believers capture the essence of new life in Jesus Christ. We use it at our church as part of a Fresh Start Packet for new believers and seekers. It is scripturally based and presents a great help for those seeking to grow in Jesus Christ. It also gives hope to those who are looking for an anchor to base their life upon in a world desperately looking for answers to the key questions of life. It is easy reading, but compelling. I highly recommend this little book as a means of telling the Good News that can only be found in Jesus Christ.

First off, I'm a pastor in Chicago. Ray Pritchard is my senior pastor(I don't work for him; I minister at a nearby college). I've enjoyed his sermons for almost 3 & 1/2 years now. So I'm a bit partial to him.
With that said, let me say that this is the first book by Dr. Pritchard that I've actually read. It's very down to earth, clear, and easy to read. It took me all of 3 days to finish it(it's only 130 pages long).
Dr. Pritchard basically tells us that we're sinners, why we're sinners, why we can't save ourselves, and why we need a savior. But most importantly, he tells us what to do to get saved and to find salvation. He doesn't browbeat the reader into submission or to his ideas. But he lovingly explains all that I've mentioned above. And he proves everything he says in this book.
This book would be an excellent gift for anyone and everyone you know that doesn't know Jesus personally. Amen to Dr. Pritchard & this book!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was easy to read and a refresher for what I already knew to be true. I plan to use it as a witnessing tool and to give copies to family and friends that are not saved because it provides the basic concepts in a nonthreatening way.

Though I tried, I couldn't read a religious book that spoke to me until I read this one. It appeared in my Kindle 2 months ago and began my yearning to learn more and to "walk in faith". Now I look forward to reading more and more "religious" books, including the Bible. I am learning as fast as I can through the Holy Spirit and the Grace of God. I now believe that God chose to save me, beginning with this book. Thank you Ray Pritchard for your God inspired book.

This is a simple and basic book covering the simple message of the gospel. It is written for unbelievers who are seeking God, and explains the only way to God through faith in Jesus Christ. He explains who God is, what sin is, Who Jesus Christ is, what His death on the cross accomplished, and how a person can be saved through faith in Him. All along his points are illustrated with stories and pictures. His style is easy and conversational. Almost anyone could read this book and come away with a basic understanding of the gospel.

I had a couple of minor quibbles along the way: his section on repentance is extremely brief, and doesn't even mention the "godly sorrow that works repentance unto salvation." Repentance for him is merely a change of mind, no mention of "sorrowing to repentance" as in 2 Corinthians 7.

The other point was that while man is described as sinful through and through, the main point that our sin is against God wasn't emphasized as strongly as I would have liked.

As a whole, the book would be very useful, in a study setting for seekers, as a gift to an unbelieving friend or family member, or (as in our case) in jail ministry. Nothing in the book is taught incorrectly; those few points that could be emphasized or added are easily done individually using the book as a basis.
