More About the Author

I am a mother of four, grandmother of twelve, and happily married wife of 45 years. My life is good. My days are busy. Along with writing, I have the pleasure of lecturing on Civil War Arkansas and teaching professional development seminars.
I do appreciate hearing back from my readers so stay in touch! Visit my web nancydane.com and join me on facebook and Twitter

The Arkansas Library Association named my Tattered Glory series the 2011 winner of the Arkansiana Fiction Award. (John Grisham was the recipient in 2001 so I am in good company) :-)
Titles in the series are Where the Road Begins, A Difference of Opinion, A Long Way to Go, and An Enduring Union.
Also the Arkansas Newspaper Association chose the first novel as the Newspapers in Education selection. A condensed version is now appearing in newspapers around the country.
Although the novels were written as adult historical fiction and the majority of my fan mail is from men, I am very excited the books are being used as curriculum in schools and colleges.
It has been a good year for this author!
Below are a few reviews of my latest novel, An Enduring Union:

"Nancy Dane is a gifted writer who possesses a solid knowledge of the Civil War in Arkansas. Her latest book, An Enduring Union, could be considered two books. On one hand, it is a depiction of real historical events and characters from the Civil War history of Arkansas. On the other, it is also an engrossing novel, with plot twists and connections her readers will enjoy. Dane's eye for detail and quest for time-period accuracy make this historical fiction at its finest."

Tom Wing
Assistant Professor of History and
Director, Drennen-Scott Historic Site
University of Arkansas-Fort Smith

"Believable characters and history come alive in this addition to the wonderful Civil War series that Ms. Dane has crafted. The plot never ceases to move, capturing the imagination of the reader. Rarely does a book move effortlessly between excellent fiction and accurate historical data. Flawless research has brought forth writing equally at home on the shelf for reading entertainment and firmly ensconced in the halls of academia as a culturally relevant resource in historical fiction."

Jill S. Marr
Director
Veritas Classical Schools

"An Enduring Union is the perfect conclusion for Dane's Award Winning Civil War Series. In this skillful mixture of intrigue, romance, and drama, readers will experience adventure and the reality of war and its bitter aftermath. However, Dane always gives us a good ending that makes us eager for more."

Karen Brown
Executive Director
Arkansas Newspaper Association

I am now a Nancy Dane fan. You must read her first three books before reading this one. I will not spoil the ending but I was very pleased. The Civil War took its toll on many families. It divided family and friends to the point of even spying on each other. Distrust was everywhere. Yet there were still those who risked their lives to save a love one from the noose. Hard to image the life our ancestors had to go thru to survive. The spoils of the Civil War was rampant not only by the North and the South soldiers but by those who killed to make a buck off of whatever they could steal from an already starving family. You will love Nancy Dane's creative writing skills and the descriptive way she writes. That is what attracted me to her books the most. I highly reccomend all four of her books and hope someone will make a movie from them. THey are really that good.

Awesome! This one was one of my favorites in the series. I couldn't put the book down once I started it! I agree with one of the other reviews that said it should be a movie. I would definitely be first in line for that! Nancy Dane is a wonderful author and I can't wait to see what she has next for us!

Nelda and Allen are my two favorite characters, probably because they are both good people trying to do what is best for their country and family. I was never much of a history person but Nancy's books were hard to put down and gave me a much needed history lesson that will stay with me.

I read this book on the recommendation of a friend who said it was very historically correct. Also the setting is near where I live. I could not put it down. Luckily I was on vacation. While I was reading it, I visited Perryville Battle Field in Kentucky and Gettysburg. I was on Civil War overload. I have recommended the books to my husband who is a civil war buff and to several other people. I also read book 2 and can't wait to get book 3.

Dane's books really bring history alive. You feel like you were there. The whole series gives an insight into what was happening on the home front during the war.

I like to read historical novels and The Enduring Union as well as the preceding novels are tops! My son & daughter-in-law live in NW Arkansas. I visit there often & have visited the Pea Ridge Battlefield where my daughter-in-laws ancestors fought. The books really brought the effects of the war on the people to life in a very spell binding way!
