An enlightening insight to life as a woman in an all-male army and how persistence won through to gain her aims. Friendship was an important part of her life but she never allowed it to compromise what she believed in. The futility of war is underlined indirectly in many ways and I felt her life after her war experiences must have been an anticlimax. She certainly had the courage of her convictions and descriptions of life on and off the battlefield are detailed enough to make compulsive reading.
