5.0 out of 5 stars The Strange World Of IRAs July 30, 2012
Format:Paperback
Mr. Blankenship has compiled "All The Information About IRAs You Want To Know, But Are Afraid to Ask".

The book has 61 short chapters. This makes it easy for searching a specific subject or situation. There is also cross referencing of chapters when needed.

From the basics of the Traditional IRA, to Roth IRAs, Conversions and Re-characterization, Inherited IRAs, Transfers from Qualified Plans, and Transfers to Qualified Plans, these issues are discussed with how to and what to look out for information.

There are 16 chapters that discuss withdrawal issues. Mr. Blankenship calls this part of the book, "Special Weapons and Tactics". For someone at or approaching the RMD age, this section would likely be a a profitable read.

The more you know about how the IRA rules work, the easier it is to use them for your benefit. This book will help you to know and understand the rules of IRAs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy Reference For IRA Owners and Advisors August 15, 2012
By Tom N
Format:Paperback
As with his Social Security Owner's Manual, the author presents a wealth of helpful information regarding IRA's in an easy to read style. The small chapters and content outline make it easy to find the particular area that an individual investor or adviser may need to reference after their first pass through the book. A great investment for an adviser or investor that wants to better understand the tax benefits of IRA's.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Source August 9, 2012
Format:Paperback
Mr. Blankenship does a superb job explaining the features and beneifts of individual retirement accounts as well as their nuances and ways to think about what a person needs to do with their own IRA to best accomplish their goal for retirement. His writing style is easy on the reader, and the format of the topic of the IRA is easy to understand and subtle interjections of humor are the perfect touch. From traditional to the Roth (David Lee anyone?) his explanation and delivery are well focused and should help from the novice saver to the financial professional.

More About the Author

Jim Blankenship is the founder and principal of Blankenship Financial Planning, Ltd., a financial planning firm providing hourly, as-needed financial planning and advice. A financial services professional for over 25 years, Jim is a CFP professional and has earned the Enrolled Agent designation, a designation that qualifies him as enrolled to practice before the IRS. Jim is also a NAPFA-registered financial advisor, which designates him as a Fee-Only Financial Advisor.

Jim got into this business when his search for an objective financial advisor proved fruitless. It turns out that there were no objective financial advisors in Central Illinois who were willing to work with someone of modest means. Always a do-it-yourselfer, Jim began working to expand his knowledge in order to manage his own finances. As the quest for knowledge evolved, he discovered that he was not alone in the search for objective financial advice -- many others want and need the same kind of objectivity and knowledge that he was developing -- so Blankenship Financial Planning was launched.

Jim believes that professional, unbiased financial advice is something that all Americans need, at least periodically, to build the brightest financial futures. Holding to this philosophy, Jim is proud to offer high quality, professional financial advice to people from all walks of life.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and federally registered CFP (with flame design) in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements.
