I watched the show & thought it was hysterical. When I had to have major surgery I purchased the book. I read this before & after surgery. Although after surgery I had to put it down because it hurt to laugh. I was in a very sad place in a sad situation. I would pick up the book & let it take me away. I would be with Karl on one of his adventures or misadventures. I would actually laugh out loud, really loud! & have nurses ask me what I was reading. This was in Pittsburgh, Pa. No one had heard of An Idiot Abroad. I am so glad it is coming out on DVD. My favorite aunt is in Florida & had a stroke. She is unable to read the book but I have read parts to her. I will being going down to stay with her for a couple of months in early 2012. I am definitely taking the DVD with me so she will be able to see Karl's expressions throughout his journeys. This book has been incredibly therapeutic for myself & others I have turned into Karl fans. I also enjoy Ricky's animated radio show which I would have never watched if it was not for this book.

I haven't finished the book yet, but it is absolutely hilarious so far! If you enjoy anything these guys do, and can't get enough of Karl's logic (or lack thereof!), this book is for you. I have watched some of the show that this book is based on (it's only on in the UK right now, but can be found online). It's one of the funniest shows ever.

If you are a fan of Ricky, Steve and Karl you will love An Idiot Abroad. The book is all from Karl's point of view with a few snippets of Ricky and Steve. Karl takes us through the seven wonders of the world as he seems them.

If you have seen the TV series then you might be bored by certain part of the book as there is a lot of repetition of what was said in the series. You will love the parts of the book that is new material, but at the same time it will make it clear to you how much more fun the book would had been if you hadn't seen the series (or if the book would be only new material).

I hesitated to buy this book because I couldn't imagine there would be much to add to the series I had seen on TV. But I downloaded it and this is now one of my favorite comedy books of all times. If you love the comedy in the series, by all means get this book. You find out the WHOLE story about his trips around the world. It is truly "laugh out loud" funny! Would love to sit down and talk philosophy with Mr. Pilkington.......

I loved the TV series associated with the book, and with this book you can see more of the antics of Ricky, Steve and Karl. I didn't stop laughing the whole time I was reading...

This is the ideal travel series for anyone who hates leaving home...be it for a holiday or whatever. Karl Pilkington, at the behest of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, travels to the 7 wonders of the modern world, taking his unique perspective and sardonic wit with him.
One fault? The "pre-travel" interviews with Pilkington. Is it just me or are all the key players wearing exactly the same clothes for each interview? This leads me to believe the interviews were conducted all at the same time, most likely POST Karl's return. It lead me to question if other parts were staged...for example..Karl's casual mention of "toads" in episode one's interview...the same toads that make an appearance later in the same show.
It's a minor point and only a casual observance rather than anything to worry about.
This series is genius..and despite the title, so is Karl.

I watched the entire "An Idiot Abroad" series on The Science Channel and absolutely fell in love with it. I ordered the Travel Diaries and got to experience the whole thing again, with even more detail than the TV series. It's absolutely 100% Karl (and I mean that in a good way). I even started to get a glimpse into his mind with the references to his childhood and Mother. Just hysterical. I have a friend that did not see the series but read the book by itself and likewise she would highly recommend it just as I do.
