Format: Paperback
Richardson covers all the basics in just a few pages. Most of the book is devoted to specs on about 55 crosses throughout Ireland and photos from several different angles, which is a particular detail she attends to. She also includes information on similar Georgian and Armenian crosses, which seem to be related. Richardson has done extensive research in the area of high crosses, and studied with the likes of Nora Chadwick and Francoise Henry. This is a great intro (but only an intro) and the paperback would be a wonderful guidebook to take with you on Cross Hikes in Ireland.

Format: Paperback
This is a picture book with 199 excellent high-gloss black-and-white photos of the crosses in Ireland accompanied with descriptives. It is suitable for students and those who wish to view the crosses close-up without paying air-fare to Ireland. It is an academic documentary, written in the present with no historical or literary background on the crosses pictured, hence the lower number of stars on the review.

The High Crosses are those generally over 12 feet tall, so this book will not cover the smaller versions found in cemeteries or public places.
