5.0 out of 5 stars A Must For The Serious Bodybuilder, October 19, 2009

This review is from: Anabolic Primer: Ergogenic Enhancement for Hardcore Bodybuilders (Paperback)
I was looking for a book covering the latest developments in the fields of supplementation and ergogenics aids for hardcore athletes , a category wich lacks quality books and i choosed Anabolic Primer since it has up to date infos . I was very pleased to see all the areas of supplementation covered . The Chapter on Steroids is a very interesting one since the author was neutral on this subject , not advocating or criticizing their use . He explain the advantages and side effects than can occur when you subject your body to that amount of drugs and the leaves the choice to the users to do what they want with their body . The Other chapters are also well written with nearly all products discussed in details .

I highly recommend this book for intermadiate and advanced strength athletes looking for the latest information about supplementation , and it is a good start for those looking to start their first cycle sice it shows them the two sides of the equation . A Good Buy

5.0 out of 5 stars comprehensive review of various supplements with pros and cons, December 18, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Anabolic Primer: Ergogenic Enhancement for Hardcore Bodybuilders (Paperback)
This book did a very good job reviewing various types of supplementation, including steroids and related substances, fat burners ranging from powerful drugs (i.e. thyroxine) to normal supplements like the ECA stack, miscellaneous supplements, protein powders, creatine, and just about any other "supplement" you can buy with the pros and cons including legitimate scientific research about the qualities, efficacy, side effects, and overall value of the products. If you want to know what kinds of supplements to buy for say cutting fat, then there are hundreds, if not thousands, of products on the market; this book helps you figure out what is worth your time and money by explaining what the most frequently used ingredients actually do and their potential side effects. If you read through this book (or even just use if as a reference) you can make more informed decisions about what products you do or don't want and will easily save more than the cost of this book by not buying useless supplements. Towards the end of the book there is a nice section called pulling it all together which also includes important nutrition tips such as what to eat pre or post workout (very important stuff) and other nutrition tips, as well as some work out routine suggestions to get optimal hormone release and growth after workout.

Overall, I think this book is an excellent buy as it is up to date, comprehensive, objective and balanced, and easy to read. It would be very useful for any experienced athletes or weight trainers/bodybuilders who want to boost their performance or growth but don't know what to use to get those results or who aren't getting the results they would like. However, if you are a beginner, you should probably try to steer away from most supplements (although the nutrition tips will still be helpful), especially steroids, until you have had a chance to see what your body is capable of doing on its own, before you start introducing unknown elements. Also, as the book states over and over again, if you are still growing (teenager or early 20's) don't be stupid enough to use steroids. The risks far outweigh the benefits, especially when you are that young and already have very high levels of anabolic hormones anyway.

So, I would highly recommend this book if you know what you are doing, but need some assistance determining what kinds of supplements could boost performance or outcome; however, it's not going to help you put on 20 pounds of muscle overnight (and anything that say it will is a scam).

You think you know everything about anabolics, well think again. This book tells you the truth about advertising and what to look for and how to understand it. It is so critical to get educated by information like the one in the book instead of reading an ad in a magazine and purchase products from the stores. I learned so much and keep using this book as a reference for what I need. It is a must have for everyone that is a bodybuilder.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's one of a kind. It is a must for everybody in the bodybuilding area., March 6, 2010

It describes with clues the reality of supplementation, testosterone etc, also plenty of very usefull workout programs (preparation and precontest workouts of professionals). It describes with few words how to reach your target. And the most important it doesn't repeat the half book to the other half with different words. Every page is unique!

I fould it very usefull for my work on my clients (I am a Gym owner)

With one sentence: If I ever loose it I will immediately buy it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Anabolic Primer, October 30, 2011

This is an incredible reference book!!!! The book provides you with information you don't find elsewhere, or that you can't find in one location. It is very objective and sites research both positive and negative. You don't feel like the supplement company is trying to jam a product down your throat. I felt as though the author had my well-being and best interest in mind when the book was written. I was looking for a book that explained the benefits of specific supplements. I got that and much much more. Highly recommended if you are an athlete of any kind, or a bodybuilder in particular. Awesome book!!
