Anachronism is a timeless tale of the highs and lows of living told in a way that will leave you with goosebumps. Truly an original book of poetry, Anachronism is far ahead of it's time. I noticed that this book was published before September 11th and Anachronism plays out almost like a prediction of sorts. The bottom line is that this book is a fantastic peice of work that should not be overlooked.

The mark of a truly adept poet is the ability to use language to remove concrete reality from personal experience and yet leave all the emotional shadings with which a reader can identify. Marie Matteucci has accomplished this in her premier book, Anachronism. Unabashedly scathing, Ms. Matteucci uses personal relationships and episodes from her own life to attack such varying subjects as revenge, the futility of life in the face of mortality, vanity and betrayal with an honesty and anger that leaves one feeling as though you are reading her exposed nerves. Almost refreshing in her fearlessness, she also shows no compunction about turning her fractured perspective inward to lay bare her own idiosyncrasies for whoever cares look. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone interested in poetry with the cliché but appropriate warning, "not for the faint of heart."
