This book aims to describe most of the commonly used practical procedures that a junior anaesthetist or intensivist may be expected to perform. In covering a wide range of techniques it does not attempt to be a comprehensive text on each speciality area and the reader is recommended to refer to specialist texts for more detailed information as well as for descriptions of less common procedures. It is hoped that the book will serve as a means of consolidating training and as a reference manual for the first few solo procedures. It is more concerned with principles and guidelines than with precise technical detail.
