3.0 out of 5 stars Well I'll be Bummed
This is brilliant! My partner Tristan told me about this book sometime ago, I was a bit reluctant to go out and buy it, but I'm glad I did!

This has improved our bedroom activity incredibly! Go Buy It!

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting in touch with the most taboo-ed body part, October 17, 2001
By A Customer
This book is indispensible reading for anybody thinking of exploring anal eroticism in any or all of its forms. Unlike some writers, Morin spends as much time focusing on using fingers, tongues and toys as he does on intercourse, and he emphasizes becoming comfortable with your body and finding out what (if any) forms of anal stimulation *you* enjoy, rather than making yourself feel inadequate for failing to meet external "goals".

But the "health" part of the title shouldn't be ignored - as well as providing invaluable information on how to make anal play safe and fun for all concerned, Morin also covers the general health of this most-maligned area of the body. His guidance on relaxation and care seems as if it would be useful for anyone with IBS, constipation, haemorrhoids or any other anal or related problem, and his mission to remove shame and pain is equally relevant here.

At first, the novice reader may find themselves getting hopelessly giggly when urged to find out what their anuses are trying to tell them. But keep reading - you may find out more than you bargained for.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish my doctors had read this book., December 13, 1998
The "Anal Health" part of the title is no joke. From my late teens I was plagued with stabbing cramps, bleeding, and messier symptoms-- doctors cited stress, irritable bowel syndrome, and had nothing to reccommend but yet more fiber. In a matter of short weeks, the relaxation and muscle control exercises in this book cut down the pain I'd suffered for years. This is a must for any general medical practioner, anyone diagonosed with IBS, and, I'm tempted to say, anyone with a butt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dispels a lot of ignorance, shame and openly discusses all aspects of anal sex, August 28, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I typically don't review books on sexual technique, eroticism, etc. However, I do review books on human sexuality and I do it from a unique perspective as one educated both in the hard sciences and psychology. I also have a deep interest in the mind-body connection and human sexuality as an integrating force. In my practice, I see a lot of the fallout from ignorance, acting out and shame, which is what has largely prompted me to write this review.

I initially encountered Jack Morin through his book The Erotic Mind: Unlocking the Inner Sources of Passion and Fulfillment. In my opinion, it is the hands down best book on understanding human sexual fantasy, how this operates in everyday life, etc. My second favorite that talk about evolutionary programming is The Evolution of Desire: Strategies of Human Mating. Armed with these two books you can get a deep and wide perspective on sexuality with a small investment of time. If I could, I would make them required reading for anyone with a sex drive!!

After reading THE EROTIC MIND, I looked for other books by Jack Morin and discovered this one. I was surprised he wrote a book on anal pleasure and health given his specialty in psychology. I didn't expect much when the book arrived, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that this is a well-researched, broad spectrum treatment of anal eroticsm in all it's aspects. It includes information on physiology, health risks, various practices, "how to" tips, etc.

It is obvious according to research that many heterosexual as well as gay couples explore this territory. It is also a fact that it can be quite pleasurable for many people, but yet there is still a lot of shame sorrounding it. I see this book as a big step forward in getting these discussions inquiries out into the public eye. Young people are going to experiment, long-term couples are going to try new things and some people are going to participate in anal eroticism as their main sexual event. Given this sexual landscape, this book can help people to stay safe, maximize their pleasure and understand the risks involved in this type of sexual play.

I know there are many books on this topic written from many angles, however, I haven't seen one as multi-dimensional and concise as this. There is no hype here, just a dense collection of practical no nonsense information. If you are curious about exploring this area with your partner or you have a partner that is reluctant to try it, you may want to read this book together.

I would like to mention that although the book is dense with content, it is easily readable by anyone. It is not difficult, too technical, too clinical or filled with assertions that are not supported by research or expert opinion.

I understand that there are some people who object to anal sex on moral grounds and I understand that. However, whether any group or individual thinks it's right or wrong, I don't think people should be hurt, put themselves needlessly in harms way, etc. Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with anal sex.

In general, I think the intention behind any act is what largely makes it positive or negative. I have also found that no two things on the planet backfire more than guilt and sex in the sexual arena. I talk to many hurt people who have acted out or hurt others through the inappropriate expression of their sexuality because of these two emotional demons. That is not to say that I think anything goes, just that guilt and shame usually perpetuate that which they are trying to prevent. Two good books that I really like that talk more about this area are: Women, Sex, and Addiction: A Search for Love and Power, Private Lies: Infidelity and Betrayal of Intimacy and Don't Call It Love: Recovery From Sexual Addiction.

There is no reason that any play can't be safe and fun. This book will help you to understand how to do it and do it right. If you thought you could never have anal intercourse, this book will give you all the information you need to learn how quickly and safely.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've never learned so much from one book, April 23, 2005
My wife to be loves taking charge and now that I've learned the ins and outs of anal pleasure our time together is better than ever. She has always loved using devices on me, but prior to reading this book it was often too unpleasant to enjoy. A little pain good, but too much is too much. This book helped her learn how to deliver, and me to receive, in such a way we hardly have a reason to leave the house anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Information, you couldn't fit more in., May 25, 2001
By
Sure, alot of "sexual health" books talk about the medical aspects and consequences of our modern lovemaking ways. Some even go on to transcend, the dull sanitary style of our 8th grade health books, by actually unlocking the doors to understanding pleasure. However, I believe that intimacy should precede both. If you feel truly close to the one you are with, you will be more comfortable with each other and you will feel more alive physically and mentally. This day in age, it seems everyone has experimented beyond the social norms of the past. Now we view oral sex as an appetizer of bonding and not cannibalistic ritual. Recently I too, was trying to break new ground with my girlfriend in our intimate encounters. She was very nervous at first, but when my girl inserted the strap-on, I did feel deep intimacy. I have noticed a dramatic change in the dynamic of our relationship, as well as her demeanor. Let it be said that nobody knows more about anal pleasure than the author of "Anal Pleasure & Health": Mr.Jack Morin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ladies and Gentlemen: Welcome to this joyful secret!!, June 4, 1998
This book carries a watershed of joyful erotic information. A sensible and compassionate treatise on the too-long neglected area of anal pleasure. Read this book and hold on to your socks! Now I know why gay men have been saying,"Ladies, get to know your man's a__."! We've all heard about strict pottytraining and being uptight; this book helps usher in more than one kind of pleasurable healing.

This is one of the most significant books on sexuality.

Jack Morin compassionately confronts one of our most irrational taboos.

As a certified sexologist, I highly recommend this book as a must for anyone - any sex, any sexual orientation - who wishes to increase his or her sexual health and pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Be Ashamed--This Book Celebrates a New Way of Sex!, June 30, 1998
By A Customer
It's almost a new century--why not make a resolution to explore the thrill of safe anal sex? This is a practical, informative, and mature book. Written by a smart physician who is knowledgeable and experienced himself, I recommended it to a few of my bi and gay male friends. (My wife got curious and ended up sharing it with a close friend of hers, too; it was accepted with relief because so many people are uptight about openly discussing the subject of anal health and pleasure with friends.) Go, ahead--order this book and explore a whole new world. This book will "open up" a new dimension in sexual pleasure for you and your loved one(s).
