Book Description

McGraw-Hill series in electrical and computer engineering March 1994
A graduate level text, this volume focuses on the components of analog VLSI design for high performance signal processing applications. There is equal emphasis on the principles of circuit and layout design, and new material on CMOS and BiCMOS building blocks is included. Each chapter provides basic introductory material, with examples of case studies at the circuit and/or system level, while also highlighting major challenges to analog circuit designers. Worked examples (from a realistic silicon chip) and end-of-chapter problems assist the learning proess. An instructor's manual is also available (0-07-032387-9).

This review is from: Analog Vlsi: Signal and Information Processing (McGraw-Hill series in electrical and computer engineering) (Hardcover)
Chapters from the book: Analog VLSI,Basic CMOS Circuit Techniques, Continuous-Time Signal Processing,Low Voltage Signal Processing,Basic BiCMOS Circuit Techniques ,Current-Mode Signal Processing,Neural Information Processing , Sampled-Data Analog Filters,Oversampled A/D Converters,Analog Sensors,Design for Testability ,Analog VLSI Interconnects,Statistical Modeling and Simulation,Analog Computer-Aided Design,Analog and Mixed Analog-Digital Layout. As seen above each chapter of the book is a separete and valuable reference for the graduate-level students or practicing engineers like us. You should read this book if you would like to be aware of Analog VLSI design! At the end I would like to appreciate and offer my best wishes for all the contributers of this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, August 6, 2001

This review is from: Analog Vlsi: Signal and Information Processing (McGraw-Hill series in electrical and computer engineering) (Hardcover)
I'd hoped I was investing in a useful book, esp. since one of the authors (Ismail) has coedited a book with Carver Mead. The material lacks conceptual clarity. It appears more like a compilation of material - a "cut and paste" effort by people who are strangers to analog circuits. I've met Terri Fiez at a conference - she was charming, but it was clear that she did not have a clean grasp of what she claimed was her area of expertise. Perhaps it was too much to expect Ismail to save this book ....

1.0 out of 5 stars pathetic, July 4, 2001

if i could give this book negative stars, i would give it an infinite number of negative stars. this is a total insult to analog design. who is ismail, btw? as for fiez, she is well known as a high-visibility flake - yes literally a flake that collapses upon the mildest examination. this is clear is every chapter in this book. totally superficial, with deceptive simplicity. the best route to gain facility in analog design is to start with sedra/smith and then graduate to gray/meyer. you can access the literature after a course using gray/meyer and go it alone after that. (flee the likes of fiez et al) we need more academics like gray and meyer - may their tribe increase and may the fiezes be consigned to the refuse bins of posterity!
