Great asddition to any classroom!,
By
This review is from: Analogy Adventure (Critical Thinking Series) (Paperback)
I have used "Analogy adventure" in my 3rd grade classroom this year. I separated it into two packets and the students use it as seat work whenever they are done with an assignment. They really enjoyed these! It is has a nice spread of skill levels, starting with fairly easy anologies (balloon:rubber::shoe:leather and cinnamon:spice::tea:beverage) then medium (back:front::stern:bow and ignite:extinguish::flexible:rigid), pogressing to more difficult ones near the end, (ornithologist:birds::entomologist:insects and test:experiment::method:technique). I have a bright group with strong language skills . . but the other skill they learned while doing the packets was to eliminate the answers that were incorrect to find what was left, to help them discover an answer to an anology with unfamiliar terms. It has tons of analogies and would make a great addition/supplement to any Language Arts curriculum, as well as Morning warm-up/seatwork, or used as a fill-in activity packet as I did this year. The difficulty level is 3rd (if you have a bright group) or 4th Grade to 7th/8th Grade.
