The essentials of financial management in 400 pages,
By macktheknife (Northern, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Analysis for Financial Management (Paperback)
"Analysis for Financial Management" is an excellent text that covers the major topics of financial management: how to evaluate and interpret financial statements, the tools a manager should use to forecast future earnings and manage growth, how to properly valuate businesses and investment opportunities, and so forth. This book is ideal if you are familiar with basic accounting and finance concepts but want a deeper understanding of finance in a corporate setting. Each chapter contains a recommended reading list for those who want a more thorough explanation and analysis of the topics covered. There is a website the author has put together that provides more examples and tools. Unlike other textbooks, this book actually has all the answers for exercises at the end of the chapters! Lastly, Higgins provides a number of examples and explains all the major concepts with a touch of humor. This is definitely one of the best books I've seen out there.

Excellent introduction to finance,

I used the fifth edition of this wonderful book for the MBA Program at the Darden School at the University of Virginia and found it to be a great introduction to the field of finance. I also used the fifth edition to supplement my study materials for the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Program and found it to be of great value. This is, in my opinion, one of the best introductory books related to finance on the market today.

A must-buy for all finance majors studying in college. As a university student majoring in accounting and finance, I found this book to be the most insightful, understandable and practical finance book I've ever read. It can be used as a reference to other important finance books out there like the famous Brealy & Myers book "Principles of Corporate Finance".

Killer,

This review is from: Analysis for Financial Management (Paperback)
Each time a re-read a chapter of this book, it is further enriching. I had no background in business finance and only an introductory accounting background prior to reading this book. It is approachable and quite deftly introduces one to the field of finance. Broad coverage of major topics such as financial forecasting, management of growth, debt vs. equity, financial instruments, valuations, discounted cash flow, and drawing from financial statements. Higgins places things in proper context and builds upon knowledge at good, steady pace.

Professor Higgins Is The Man!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Analysis for Financial Management (Paperback)
I'm currently in Prof. Higgins' 2nd year MBA Finance class at the University of Washington. Other reviewers at this site point out several of the functional benefits of this book and those reviews are right on. I will add that Prof. Higgins' book does something most other finance texts fail to do: it lends a strong sense of context. It has helped me (as someone with a marketing background) develop a strong and useful intuition for finance theory. I expect it also helps finance experts get a firmer handle on the strategic and managerial context in which they operate. Worth every penny.

One of a kind,

A book that every prospective MBA should have, as it is very clear and gives a lot of resource listings and examples. Recommended for anyone that need to deal with financial issues. What makes it even better, is that it lives up to its back cover: it turns Finance into Management, or at least tries very hard to show what a CFOs life is really about, in practical examples. Very strongly recommended for people that need to understand what being a CFO is about (all prospective MBAs) or people that need to understand what choices sometimes have to be made in finance.

A good book on how to do real world financial analysis,

This review is from: Analysis for Financial Management (Paperback)
This is a well written book which explains the basics of financial analysis for finance and non-finance people. Well written and uses the Timberland example to illustrate the core topics covered. I also found the references to web sites for additional resources to be useful.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Analysis for Financial Management (Paperback)
I am in the financial services field and a self learner, too. I wanted this book for my business library and to help me brush up on financial analysis. This book did not disappoint me. It is very well written, although I would recommend a newer edition.

Good book for non-accounting majors,

This review is from: Analysis for Financial Management (Paperback)
The author is confused about why accountants do what they do with their "numbers" so he tries his best to relate it in terms of logic. Good intro and overview for my MBA class.
