Good; but for the specialist student., November 24, 1998

This review is from: Image Analysis in Histology (Postgraduate Medical Science) (Hardcover)
This is a good text covering the important and expanding area of image analysis. However, to get the best out of it, one would need to be studying a course on Image Analysis (such as the MSc. run by the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, London for whom the book is aimed), and using iamge analysis systems so as to put into practice the information detailed within the text.
The other main fault is that, to some extent, it demands a degree of knowledge of computer-based image systems as well as the reader knowing how to produce histological sections. Few students would have sufficient grounding in both areas to pick this book up and read it from cover to cover.
In summary, it is a good book for those studying image anlaysis (eg MSc.) and should be read in concert with lectures etc on this material, but it is not for general teaching use. If you are interested in this material, then you should first look at a copy from your library (or via inter-library loans service).
