This latest 8th edition is a very polished, fluidly written text on its subject. Barnett takes the student into a solid, first course on analytic geometry. We see the elementary concept of a Cartesian coordinate axes, to lay down the x and y coordinates of a plane. Then, there is a natural merging with trigonometric concepts.
The reader can see the power of this synthesis. She learns how earlier geometric lessons take on far more expressive reach, once she can use a coordinate system, and the various trig functions. Barnett also furnishes many examples and problem sets to help her retain and assimilate the new knowledge. |
