5.0 out of 5 stars unique graduate level text for dynamics.
This book differs from most graduate level texts on dynamics in that it clarifies concepts with plenty of methodically worked out examples. Also, this book is extremely useful for engineers as it balances advanced theories with applications. Author has put a lot of effort and thought in writing this book and deserves special thanks for contribution to education in the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Its ok
This book is OK. For a graduate level text, I found that it lacked rigor and difficult solutions to example problems seemed "hand wavy". That is, I don't think that it is practical to memorize the general acceleration term for an object (rigid body or particle). Example problems (using Newton-Euler to derive equations of motion) are solved in the text by finding the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Its ok, March 30, 2006
This review is from: Analytical Dynamics (Hardcover)
This book is OK. For a graduate level text, I found that it lacked rigor and difficult solutions to example problems seemed "hand wavy". That is, I don't think that it is practical to memorize the general acceleration term for an object (rigid body or particle). Example problems (using Newton-Euler to derive equations of motion) are solved in the text by finding the translational acceleration, then the Coriolis acceleration, etc. and plugging them into the acceleration equation. In practice, if you can write the position vector of an object and you are careful about your inertial and non-inertial frames then calculus will give you the correct acceleration---every time.

A strong point of the book is all the problems at the end of each chapter. If you can do them, you can do dynamics. But, Baruh's text before the problems might not prepare you to write the solutions.
