3.0 out of 5 stars Poor presentation, but good content on gear theory, August 27, 1998

This review is from: Analytical Mechanics of Gears (Dover Civil and Mechanical Engineering) (Paperback)
I have several books on gears. This is the only one that covers the how and why of gear design. Covers design load calculations, max rpm, and life projections. The content has good depth, but the author presents the information as if he is having a discussion with gear experts instead of individuals with no background in gear theory. There are not enough diagrams for the subject matter to be readily followed. I used Mathcad to draw the involute curves described to fill in the holes. The book has the broadest view on the subject of gears availible, but is extremely slow reading.
