5.0 out of 5 stars Better late than never., August 30, 2005

Watujel (San Antonio, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Anasol (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
About half the songs on this album are from Anasol's 2002 South America-only release "Astros," including the Colombian hit singles "Sin Miedo a Caer" and "Voy Volando." This is as tasteful, groovealicious and polished as pop music in any language gets. The new single "Sentimiento" is more electronic and shows that Anasol is willing to follow her personal influences even if the results aren't anything akin to you'd hear on timid Latin pop radio or repetitive Hurban radio. Another great thing about Anasol's music is that her lyrics sound naturally sincere, not like someone striking a pose...(Thalia?) Example (from "Sin Miedo a Caer"): "si tu meta esta lejos de encajar en lo que buscan los demas"

The new, uptempo "Dame" contains one of the most intriguing romantic compliments I've ever heard: "Perfume Dali, es mi metafora de ti." Yup, these are not your typical "quieres/mueres, soy/voy, bailar/gozar" Spanish lyrics. And, in contrast to the ever more navel-gazing Shakira, Anasol writes in an extroverted way.

Image-wise, I honestly prefer the curly-henna-haired Anasol to the current blonde va-va-voom Anasol but either way she looks incredible; she could pass for 21.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fine Spanish pop singer, December 21, 2005
This review is from: Anasol (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
For those who favor the sounds of Thalia, Paulina Rubio, and Shakira, you will definately want to pick up this cd, by the gorgeous and talented Anasol. She could be the next Paulina! She certianly has a great voice, better than most any other pop singer today in Spanish music. Anasol is not teen pop either, her music is more sophistocated, and already her music videos are getting aired. Great cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Move over Shakira, this girl is really Blonde!, December 3, 2007
This review is from: Anasol (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
This definitely an excellent buy. With a soaring voice and cheerful songs that are hypnotic to the ear this Colombian singer will even get grandma's feet atappin'. Her unique poppy and ballad style includes lyrics that are easy to understand, like 'Nace'.

4.0 out of 5 stars UNIQUE and entertaining vocals! Almost, but not quite FIVE STARS!, December 11, 2006

This review is from: Anasol (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
Unique vocal work from Anasol makes this a CD worth buying! I don't think I've heard anything quite like her anywhere else in either Spanish or English! Entertaining vocals without being overblown or pointless. I'm NOT a fan of vocal antics for the sake of showing off one's vocal abilities. As a former radio disc jockey from the 1980's, let me cite Whitney Houston as an example of an artist that just makes me cringe. UGH!

But, back to ANASOL! Her vocals are top-notch and ADD to the music! VOY VOLANDO and SENTIMIENTO are tracks that you'll want to play repeatedly. I can't quite bring myself to give FIVE stars, because album does trail off a bit and lose energy towards the end, but it could be that I like the first 2/3 so much I just don't have the patience to wait through to the end so I can start over again at track one!

DVD disc two contains SENTIMIENTO video (FUN!), biography, photo gallery, interview (with available ENGLISH subtitles), and behind the camera look at making the Sentimiento video. LYRICS included for those of us who READ Spanish better than we can process what we're hearing!

Not quite five stars because I myself lose interest in the last 1/3 of the CD, but I hesitate to give it only four as the vocals are that outstanding. So, in the end I'd give ANASOL'S U.S. debut 4-1/2 STARS.
