My Favorite Children's Book!,
By
This review is from: Anatole (Paperback)
I am past 50 years old now, and have read thousands of books, but one of my very favorites is Eve Titus's "Anatole".I even still have the actual book that I read all those years ago. It's in great shape and the illustrations by Paul Galdone are perfect and very "French". You should buy a couple of good cheeses and introduce them to your child after you read Anatole to them, or if they read it themselves. and they will remember that with loving fondness for the rest of their lives. Whoever reads this magical book will soon be starving for cheese! I still love Anatole and read it often. I highly recommend it.

Amazing! For younger readers, this book will be a blast! This book is about mice in Paris who are looking for food. One mouse named Anatole goes to a cheese factory and earns his living by tasting cheeses and giving tips on how to improve it. Eve Titus has a really exciting way of writing! - Mark

Even a bicycle riding French mouse can make a difference!!,
By
This review is from: Anatole (Library Binding)
Excellent book for kids!!...I had never heard of this author or title prior to today. The main character of the book is a Parisian mouse named Anatole. He is a bicycle riding mouse who is always in search of food for his very large family. After he discoveres that humans don't like it when mice dig through their trash, he develops a plan to make his talents helpful for people. His efforts pay off and he becomes a hero to his family of mice and to the humans who benefit from his efforts.Even the youngest of children will understand the themes of this book. Children who may see themselves as insignificant in a busy household will learn great lessons from Anatole. Anatole is a Caldecott Honor Book. Even though this book is currently out of print, it should be searched for at your local library. Nevertheless I will look for other books from Eve Tutus. Vive Anatole!!

This is a wonderful book and should be reprinted. Every child should read the Anatole series, every library should lend the Anatole series and every bookstore should stock the Anatole series. Anyone who has not read it is missing out on a tres bien thing.

My children loved Anatole and now I am reading the stories to my grandchildren. The 7 year old especially likes them. The kids are familiar with Spanish phrases, but they have never really heard any French before, so the French phrases thrown in are a unique addition for them.

The First and Best Book in the Series,

This review is from: Anatole (Hardcover)
We own a half a dozen in the series of Anatole the mouse, but this one has become a quick favorite.
Anatole is a mouse living in Paris with his wife Doucette and their six children (Claude & Claudette, Paule & Paulette, Georges & Georgette). Anatole is a highly principled, honest mouse, who discovers that sneaking food from the people of Paris has left them with a rather nasty impression of mice. Appalled to be thought of in this manner, Anatole resolves to find a more honest and respectable manner of acquiring food for his family. His idea to begin a incognito job as a cheese taster in the Duval Cheese Factory brings him instant success as he turns the Duval business from floundering to being the most successful in France. In this, the first book, he earns the title of 'Mouse Magnifique', which is thematically used throughout the rest of the series. This book stands apart from the rest in the series because it preceeds the formula which is used in every other of the Anatole books we own, and because it doesn't descend into being overly-wordy. The content is just right, the ilustrations are typical Galdone - and as a fan of Galdone's illustration I can say the book would not be what it is without his haphazard, but extremely expressionistic characterizations. The story is gentle, sweet, and the characters are admirable in their mission to be honorable mice. A fantastic little world has been created by Titus and Galdone, and it's a pleasant read all-around.

A lovely children's book! Worth finding and reading to all children who have an imagination. Brings back many wonderful childhood memories for those of us who can recall simple children's stories such as Anatole.
