5.0 out of 5 stars I love this little book!!, May 4, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Anatomy of Desire: How to Be Happy Even When You Don't Get What You Want (Paperback)
I love this little book! In "Anatomy of Desire," Gina Like explodes the popular cultural myth that desire fulfillment leads to happiness. In it she states that "while there is no freedom from desiring, because desiring will exist as long as we are human, it is possible to become free from needing our desires to be met." The practical information in this book demystifies desire and helped me to distinguish between the fear driven desires of the ego and the urges of essence. "Anatomy of Desire is an easy, quick read that has had a lasting impact on me. I highly recommend it along with all of Gina's other wonderful books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Former LOA teacher loves this book!, April 29, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Anatomy of Desire: How to Be Happy Even When You Don't Get What You Want (Paperback)
Gina Lake does a brilliant job of explaining desire. When you understand desire there is no need to manage it or focus on it the way most LOA experts teach it.

If you have been involved in LOA and are at a place where it doesn't serve you as well as it used to, this is the book for you! The clarity that you will receive from this book is priceless.

I just want to add that although I have read many books from Amazon, this is the first review I have written. This book is a must read!

5.0 out of 5 stars How to Deal With Desires, August 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I highly recommend all of Gina Lake's books. I was severely depressed, anxious, having suicidal thoughts, and frustrated with therapy when I stumbled upon Gina's books. The Universe brought me her books at just the right time and in just the right manner and thankfully, I was open to receiving them. Through her books, I have learned how to be grounded in the moment; how to be aware of my thoughts and the "egoic mind" with its obsessive, negative messages; and how to notice and listen to my intuition, and change my entire outlook on life. I am also starting to realize the "oneness" of all life. Having before never trusted anyone or anything, I am now learning to trust the Universe and the divinely unpredictable nature of every day events which makes life so wonderfully rich. The tremendous fear I used to feel is now subsiding. Gina talks about the importance of meditation as a spiritual practice which has helped me to restart my meditation practice which in turn helps me stay in the present moment. Refreshingly, Gina's books are free of religious dogma and rules and are available to all readers regardless of religious/spiritual backgrounds and belief systems. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful! An excellent follow-up to 'the Law of Attraction', August 26, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Anatomy of Desire: How to Be Happy Even When You Don't Get What You Want (Paperback)
This is an excellent book! I love Gina's books and this one was one of the most transformative for me. Just like Eckhart Tolle's 'The Power of Now' this book really helped me understand my ego and its thoughts and desires and begin to realise that I am not my thoughts. At first some of the ideas in this book surprised me because as a follower of the Law of Attraction I was under the impression that to be happy I had to get what I want. This book teaches you to be happy wether you get what you want or not and for that it is a true gem. Happiness doesn't have anything to do with what you have - happiness is our natural state :) After reading this book i've ordered just about every book that Gina Lake has published and they do not dissapoint! P.S. if you don't want to get over stress and suffering then don't read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear, Concise, and a poignant read, March 12, 2009
This review is from: Anatomy of Desire: How to Be Happy Even When You Don't Get What You Want (Paperback)
Gina states clearly how our "conditioned desires" interferes with our happiness and clouds the truth of our Essence. As Gina explains, "The ego uses fear to inspire you to take action, while essence inspires you through feelings of joy, excitement, happiness, and elation".

Gina's warmth and love permeates throughout every page, captivating the reader to absorb the depth of her wisdom, moving one beyond mere words to truth itself. "Anatomy of Desire" guides one through the maze of egoic desires to the desires of essence.

A marvelous read and one that may be referred to often.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only thing missing is the treasure chest!!, January 23, 2009

Gina Lake's "Anatomy of Desire" is pure gold! It is filled with spiritual gems and powerful insights that drip with presence.

Her material rings of both authenticity and clarity. You know that favorite author of yours that always "nails it" just as you see it? Or answers questions you've always had? Well for me, Gina Lake does the job. The problem is, I find myself highlighting the whole damn book!:)

Here's a taste (pg. 23):

"You are evolving toward pure Awareness, which is not identified with the body, mind, desires, or feelings but knows itself as All. Until you have acheived this level of dis-identification, you are identified to some extent with your body, mind, desires and feelings.

"Those who are deeply and more completely identifed with these suffer greatly, and those who are less deeply and completely identified with these suffer less."

The focus of this book is on a topic that all of us do, yet few of us think about HOW we do it or even if it is really US doing it!? Most of us are just a slave to our mind's never ending litany of demands and desires which is why there is so much suffering in the world.

Gina Lake has thought alot about this vital subject and clearly explains what the mind is up to and why it has nothing to do with who we really are.

Love and Serenity,

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Gem from Gina, October 13, 2008
By
This review is from: Anatomy of Desire: How to Be Happy Even When You Don't Get What You Want (Paperback)
This is just one more Home Run from Gina Lake. In this one she shows us how to be "unconditionally happy" and she does it exquisitely and clearly. It is a fun and easy read that will transform even the foulest of moods. She shows us that our ego is always craving for more but that we don't have to feed it. She teaches us to recognize that we can only "BE" happy but the ego will continue to cry for what it wants but giving it that will never satiate it. Do yourself a huge favor and get this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly simple..., December 3, 2008
By

This review is from: Anatomy of Desire: How to Be Happy Even When You Don't Get What You Want (Paperback)
No one wants to suffer yet we all do. We get so caught up in the busy-ness of our minds (ego). That busy-ness keeps us trapped in a cycle that is never ending and always leading to pain. The more we "try" to figure things out, the more firmly entrenched we become. The ego will also hijack our spiritual process, creating more restlesness, disharmony and want.

Anatomy of Desire gives a clear, simple explanation of the ego and how easily we fall into the ego's cycle. Gina Lake writes with the ease of conversation, making this book very easy to read and understand. No excess explanation yet enough to illustrate the points she is making. Her recommendations to transcend the suffering are right on - tried and true. The rest is up to us.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Mean All That STUFF Won't Make Me HAPPY?, December 29, 2008
By
This review is from: Anatomy of Desire: How to Be Happy Even When You Don't Get What You Want (Paperback)
Once again, Gina and Theo take the most complex of ideas and explain it in a way that will have you hitting your head and going "DOH!" Crystal clear observations and sparkling information helps us see that we can be happy without all the stuff and that getting what we want may not make us happy.

When I was very active in the world of showing purebred dogs one of my goals was to breed a Best in Show dog, yep, like in the movie. When one of my dogs DID win his first Best in Show I remember getting the phone call and excitedly telling my husband about it. He looked at me and said, "Well, was it enough? Was it what you expected or do you just want more?" Ouch.

Yes, this book should be required reading in junior high schools across the land! Thank you, Gina and Theo!
