Heather Strang makes the ages-old roller coaster of romantic love accessible to sentient people of all ages and genders in an entirely original and contemporary way in her Anatomy of the Heart book of poetry. This work is more than a book of fresh, authentic, often painfully raw and honest one- and two-page poems that quietly invite you in and tug at your heart (all of which it is and does). The above-and-beyond factor of this particular book is the placement of each poem very diligently and delicately within the context of a brilliant metastructure that Strang created through well-placed supporting narratives that unite the concepts surrounding the human heart's physical anatomy with the human heart's powerful metaphysical and metaphorical aspects. The titles of each poem and narrative pillar breathe as much life and meaning into the experience of reading this bound-to-be-classic work as do the texture-rich details of each word within the eclectic poetic arrangements.
