4.0 out of 5 stars A great book for starting your own home studio!!, August 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Anatomy of a Home Studio (Paperback)
This book gives a general overview of what you have to keep in mind when you want to start your own home studio. It describes theoretical concepts like acoustics as well as the more practical stuff like setting up proper electrical wiring. It also gives a clear overview of the different types of audio equipment you can encounter in your search for the perfect studio. The book is well structured and there are some ironic touches added as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book "If you have some experience with recording", January 26, 2003

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Anatomy of a Home Studio (Paperback)
Scot Wilkinson wrote this book for those who are familiar with recording and wanted an idea or better understanding of how their equipment works the way it does (hence the title "Anatomy of a Home Studio). This book has very little tips or techniques on the equipment it covers. Its not a skill or how to book.

I bought this book for a class and for reference at home for a setup I had just put together. I was a beginner at the time I purchased the book and had little knowledge on the concepts of decibels, MIDI, signal flow, or the physics of sound (which are some of the topics covered in this book). Being a begginer, after reading everything in the book more than once, many of the topics covered in the book remained unclear to me (though the book, for its purpose, is very helpful). After I had learned more about recording and setup (through classes and other books), I was glad I had purchased this book, as it does help you understand how your equipment works in a technical manner.

So unless you have some form of a recording setup and have a working knowledge of how to use your equipment, dont buy this book, because you might not understand very much of the topics covered. But if you want to learn the science of how your equipment operates when its on or how signals are routed...etc; then this book will be very helpful to you and may even make you a better recording artist or engineer for it too!

3.0 out of 5 stars Do I have the patience to want to sit down with this??, June 2, 2001
This review is from: Anatomy of a Home Studio (Paperback)
No-but, hey, to each his own. Right? Honestly, a very comprehensive book(much like a high-school science text book...outstanding). All meat with no potatoes. If you're studying to go into the field of engineering as a living or are an electronics genius, this review is sheer blaspheme. If you want to make good music on your home studio, get The Musician's Guide to Home Recording and a good dose of spirit- then press record. Peace.
