5.0 out of 5 stars Anatomy and Physiology for Midwives, June 30, 2001

I thoroughly enjoyed this informative and innovative book. If you are a student midwife or a current midwife this book is a must have. It covers all the aspects of the anatomy that we need to know to better inform our parents about embryology and how the pregnant body works and sustains itself during pregnancy.

The illustrations are incredibly helpful. If you are a visual person this book is definately for you. The book includes learning outcomes and chapter summaries. There are also many case studies which make you think about how you would respond to a stituation in real life. It also covers reproductive physiology, labor and postpartum.

EXCELLENT BOOK!!!

This review is from: Anatomy & Physiology for Midwives, 2e (Paperback)
This was one of the first textbooks I used for midwifery school; right off there were several things I enjoyed about this book. The book isn't the size of an unabridged dictionary; it includes interesting clinical case studies that focus on midwifery care- not obstetrical care-; thorough review of physiology that was indepth yet not overwhelming. I found the chapters on the physiology of labor as well as embryology and placentation particularly useful.

The pages are fairly monochromatic, which I find a bit sore on the eyes. I like lots of color and constrast when reading textbooks- I think it helps retain the info better. The book is also written for British and European midwives, so just get used to the "oestrogen" and "labour" throughout the text.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome guide, not too technical, January 27, 2012
This review is from: Anatomy & Physiology for Midwives, 2e (Paperback)
So this text was required reading as a student midwife. It has been a few years since I had taken the sciences so I was a little intimidated when it came time for this module in class. This text is A+!!! It was a very simple and effective guide for us to wade through a lot of the information that is necessary to the practice of midwifery. I also had a regular undergrad text book on anatomy and physiology that was great for cross reference but Anatomy and Physiology for Midwives was so much more lightweight and portable, you can take it to births, or show it to moms and partners, as it is not the least bit intimidating. However, I would like to stress that it is very thorough. This is a focused text, not cliff-notes or an overview. It is a very VERY comprehensive text.
